Full Description
Anse Source d'Argent, the beach seen from the water
Anse Source d'Argent on La Digue is the classic image of the Seychelles: a chain of small white coves separated by giant granite boulders worn smooth and tinged pink, with a shallow turquoise lagoon sheltered by a reef a few hundred metres offshore. Most visitors walk along the sand and queue for the same photo spots. From a kayak the perspective changes completely. You see the boulders rising straight out of the water, slip through channels too narrow for boats and reach stretches of coast that nobody on foot can see.
Is Anse Source d'Argent worth visiting if you have already seen the photos? From the water, yes. The lagoon is calm because the reef breaks the swell, the water is rarely more than waist-deep inside it, and the colours shift from clear glass to turquoise to deep blue toward the reef edge. Your guide chooses the line according to the tide and the wind so that the paddling stays easy for beginners and children.
The transparent kayak and what you see below
A transparent kayak has a clear hull, so the lagoon becomes a moving window. Over the sand you watch rays of sunlight ripple on the floor; over the coral heads you see parrotfish, surgeonfish, sergeant majors and sometimes a small reef shark or a turtle passing beneath you without putting your face in the water. It is the easiest way for children, non-swimmers and anyone who dislikes a snorkel mask to see the marine life of La Digue, and it photographs beautifully from above.
The kayaks are stable two-seat boats, and no experience is needed. After the safety briefing your guide shows you how to hold the paddle, steer and stop, and stays close to the group the whole time. Expect around forty-five minutes of gentle paddling on the way out, with pauses to look down and take pictures; the lagoon is sheltered enough that the effort is light.
The sea cave and the hidden coves to the south
South of the main beach the granite coast continues in a series of small coves that most visitors never reach: Anse Pierrot, Anse aux Cèdres and the rocky points between them. Here the tour arrives at a sea cave hollowed under the boulders, a dim, cool chamber where the water glows green and the swell echoes, the kind of hideaway you would imagine on a castaway's island. The group pauses in and around the cave for photos and a swim in the calm water outside it.
This is the long stop of the tour, roughly forty-five minutes to an hour, with time to float, snorkel if you brought a mask, or sit on the sand under the palms. Your guide then opens a coconut for each of you to drink and serves fresh local fruit, pineapple, papaya, banana or whatever is ripe. Towels and your own drinks beyond the coconut are not provided, so bring what you need.
L'Union Estate, the gateway to the beach
Anse Source d'Argent lies inside L'Union Estate, an old coconut and vanilla plantation on the west coast of La Digue, and the only way to the meeting point on the beach is through the estate gate. The entry fee for L'Union Estate is not included in the kayak tour and is paid at the gate. The ticket also lets you see the ox-driven copra mill, the colonial plantation house, the vanilla vines and the giant tortoise enclosure, so arrive early or stay after to look around.
How to get to Anse Source d'Argent: from the La Digue jetty in La Passe, head south along the coast road for about ten to fifteen minutes by bicycle, or a few minutes by taxi, to the estate entrance, then walk through the plantation to the beach. Transport is not included in this tour, so plan to be at the beach fifteen minutes before your 10:00 or 13:00 start. L'Union Estate opens in the morning and closes in the late afternoon.
La Digue practicalities and the best time to paddle
La Digue is the small, almost car-free island east of Praslin. How to get to La Digue: a ferry of about fifteen minutes from Praslin, or a longer crossing from Mahe with a change at Praslin, both arriving at the La Passe jetty. If you stay on Praslin, the morning ferry connects comfortably with the 10:00 departure; if you come from Mahe, the 13:00 departure is the safer choice. Ask us and we help you match ferry times to the tour.
The best time to visit Anse Source d'Argent by kayak is the calm season from October to April, when the lagoon is glassy and the water clearest for looking through the hull; May to September is breezier, though the reef still shelters the lagoon. Morning light is softer for photos, while the afternoon departure often has fewer people on the beach. The tour runs around the tide, and your guide adjusts the route on the day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private tour?
It is a shared small-group tour limited to eight participants, with one licensed local guide. The group size keeps the pace relaxed and the briefing personal.
Can we change the itinerary or the pace?
The route follows the lagoon to the sea cave and back, but the pace is gentle and the guide adapts the line and the length of the swimming stop to the group, the tide and the wind.
How many people can join, and how many sit in each kayak?
The tour takes up to eight participants. The transparent kayaks are two-seat boats, so couples and parent-and-child pairs paddle together.
Is the price per person or per group?
Per person, with an adult rate from age thirteen and a youth rate for ages six to twelve. The booking panel on this page shows the current price for your dates.
Is hotel pickup included?
No. You meet the guide directly on Anse Source d'Argent beach inside L'Union Estate. The beach is a short bicycle or taxi ride from the La Digue jetty.
What is included?
A transparent kayak and paddle, a life jacket, a licensed local guide speaking English or French, the safety briefing, fresh fruit and a coconut. Transport to the beach, the L'Union Estate entry fee, towels, personal items and tips are not included.
How long is the tour?
About three and a half hours, starting at 10:00 or 13:00, including the briefing, the paddle to the cave, the swimming and fruit stop and the return with photo stops.
Is it suitable for children and for people with reduced mobility?
Children from six can join at the youth rate, seated with an adult in a two-seat kayak; ask us about younger children. Getting in and out of the kayak happens on the sand in shallow water, which is manageable for most people, but the tour involves paddling and short walks on sand, so tell us about any mobility needs before booking.
Do I need kayaking experience or to be a strong swimmer?
No experience is needed; the lagoon is sheltered and the briefing covers everything. Life jackets are worn throughout. You should be comfortable in the water for the swimming stop, and you can stay on the sand if you prefer.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, towel, hat, reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes, a waterproof case for your phone, cash for the L'Union Estate entry fee, and your own mask and snorkel if you want to snorkel.
What is the best time of day and season?
October to April brings the calmest, clearest lagoon. The 10:00 departure has softer light for photos; the 13:00 departure often finds the beach quieter. The guide times the route to the tide on the day.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose your date, departure time and the number of adults and youths, and send the booking. Our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes with directions to the meeting point on the beach.
