Full Description
London Zoo in Regent's Park
London Zoo is set in Regent's Park, surrounded by listed buildings and gardens, and is run by ZSL, the Zoological Society of London, which opened it in 1828. It combines historic architecture with modern habitats and conservation work. If you are searching for London Zoo tickets, this page gives you the standard, off-peak and peak-date options.
Your ticket is valid for one day. Most visitors spend around four hours, and some stay longer. Last admission is one hour before the advertised closing time. The zoo's Victorian buildings and gardens make it a pleasant walk even between exhibits.
Land of the Lions and Tiger Territory
Land of the Lions is one of the zoo's biggest experiences: an Indian-themed exhibit of about 2,500 square metres where you walk close to the Asiatic lions, of which only about 400 remain in the wild. The walkways bring you face to face with the big cats.
In Tiger Territory you learn about the Sumatran tigers, their natural behaviour and the conservation challenges they face in the wild. The two exhibits are among the most popular in the zoo and are best visited early. Aim to arrive close to opening time, since the big cats are often most active in the morning and the paths are calmer.
Penguin Beach, Gorilla Kingdom and the Galapagos
Penguin Beach hosts a colony of Humboldt penguins, which you can watch diving and feeding in England's largest penguin pool, with underwater viewing windows. Nearby, Into Africa introduces giraffes, and Gorilla Kingdom lets you see gorillas at close range.
Giants of the Galapagos shows three Galapagos giant tortoises that can live for over a century. Tiny Giants celebrates invertebrates, with a coral reef tank of clownfish and blue tangs. Look out for the walk-through areas, where you can step among animals with only a low barrier between you and them.
Options, getting there and practical tips
Choose the standard ticket, the off-peak weekday ticket or the peak-date ticket, depending on your day. The animals and exhibits are the same, but the ticket type follows the date. If you are wondering how to get to London Zoo, take the Tube to Camden Town or Regent's Park and walk, or take a bus. Transport is not included and there is no hotel pickup.
Weekday mornings are usually quieter. Bring a rain jacket and comfortable shoes, and plan your route in advance, since the zoo is large. Allow time for the keeper talks and feeding sessions listed on the day.
