Full Description

Chimgan Mountains, the Tashkent day trip to the Tien Shan

The Chimgan Mountains rise about ninety kilometres north-east of Tashkent and are the most popular mountain day trip from the capital. Greater Chimgan, the main peak, passes three thousand metres, and the village at its foot has pine-scented air, cafés and viewpoints that feel a world away from the city. Many travellers search for how to get to Chimgan from Tashkent; on this trip the transport is arranged for you, with pickup included.

Chimgan is known for its chairlift and for activities such as horse riding, quad biking and hiking, which are optional and paid on site. Even without them you can walk along the ridge paths, take photos and enjoy cooler air. Chimgan mountains tour groups often visit in spring for green slopes and in summer to escape the heat of the plains.

Charvak Lake and Reservoir

Charvak Lake is a large reservoir on the Chirchik river, created by a tall dam in the mountains north-east of Tashkent. Its water is a striking turquoise set against steep, dry hills, and it is one of the best places for a Charvak Lake day trip from Tashkent. We stop at viewpoints where the dam and the water can be photographed together.

Depending on the season, you can walk beside the shore or see visitors swimming and boating. Optional lakeside activities such as jet skis, speed boats and paragliding are paid separately on site, and card payment may not work there, so carry some cash. The reservoir is also a source of water and hydroelectric power for the region.

Amirsoy Mountain Resort

Amirsoy is a modern mountain resort in the Bostanlyk district, built among alpine meadows and pine slopes, and it operates in both winter and summer. People often ask whether Amirsoy is worth visiting outside the ski season; the cable car, hillside paths and views make it a pleasant stop in warm months too.

The cable car and other resort activities are optional and not included in the tour, as is the area entrance fee, so you pay for what you choose to use. Our guide can suggest how to use the free time, and there are restaurants nearby if you want lunch, which is also not included in the tour.

The drive and photo stops

The road from Tashkent passes rolling fields, small towns and roadside stalls before it climbs into the mountains by a winding serpentine road. We stop at good photo spots, and the guide, who knows the route well, points out orchards, rivers and the changing landscape.

Along the way you get local samsa with herbal tea, and bottled water is provided. The vehicle is new and air-conditioned, which makes the drive comfortable for the whole group. Plan on about eight and a half hours in total, starting at 08:00.
