Full Description

The Promenade des Anglais by Segway

The Promenade des Anglais is the perfect place for a Segway, since it is wide, flat and lined with palms, hotels and sea. Riding along the front you feel the breeze off the bay and see the blue chairs, the pebble beach and the grand belle-époque buildings from a comfortable standing position. The guide stops for photographs and explains how English visitors first built the walkway in the early nineteenth century.

A Segway tour in Nice is popular because it covers more ground than walking while staying at a gentle speed. You ride in single file behind your guide, learning the simple controls in a training session before you set off. The three-hour option adds more of the city, and the two-hour option focuses on the seafront, the Old Town and Castle Hill.

The Old Town and its squares

Vieux-Nice is a tangle of ochre and pink houses, with narrow lanes, Baroque churches and small markets. Depending on the route and the pedestrian traffic, the guide takes you through the quieter edges and squares, pointing out details you would miss alone. On the three-hour tour you also reach Place Saint-François, an old market square, and Place Garibaldi, one of the finest squares in the city.

The flower market at Cours Saleya is one of the sights of Nice, and the tour passes through this area at times when riding is allowed. Speeds are slow in pedestrian areas, and the guide sets the pace for the group.

Castle Hill and Rauba Capeu

Castle Hill rises at the end of the Old Town and gives some of the best views over the bay and the port. The castle was destroyed in 1706, and today the hill is a park with paths and terraces. Your Segway tour goes around its base and to the viewpoint areas that can be reached safely, where the guide tells the story of the site.

Rauba Capeu is the headland between the old town and the port, its name meaning 'hat thief' in Niçard because of the winds. On the three-hour tour you ride here and around the port, with its boats and cafes, before returning to the start point. Do not forget your camera.

Training, safety and who can join

Every tour begins with a fifteen-minute training session, so even first-time riders feel confident before leaving. A Segway is easy to control by leaning your body slightly, and the guide checks that everyone is comfortable. Helmets are mandatory, and a raincoat is provided if it rains.

There are minimum age and weight requirements for Segway riding, so tell us the age of any younger riders when you book. Wear flat, closed shoes and comfortable clothes. The tour is unsuitable for pregnant women. Food and drinks are not included, and the best time for the ride is morning or late afternoon, when the seafront is quieter.
