Overview
This private sailing yacht trip gives your group a whole yacht and skipper for a half day on the calm north-east coast of Corfu. You board at Gouvia marina, just north of Corfu town, and sail up the coast beneath the green slopes of Mount Pantokrator, with the mountains of Albania across the narrow strait. The skipper anchors at Barbati beach and at the small cove of Gialiskari for swimming, snorkelling and cliff jumping, serves sandwiches, fresh fruit and soft drinks on board, and stops at a sea cave on the way back. With no other guests, you set the mood: more swimming, more sailing or simply relaxing on deck. It suits couples, families and friends, and a full-day version is also available.

Full Description
Gouvia Marina and the Venetian Shipyard
Gouvia lies on a sheltered bay about 7 kilometres north of Corfu town and is home to one of the largest and best-equipped marinas in Greece. The bay has been used by sailors for centuries: on its shore you can still see the stone arches of a Venetian shipyard built in the 18th century, where galleys were repaired and kept during the winter.
Boarding at Gouvia is easy: the marina has parking, cafés and a well-organised quay, and it is only around 15 minutes by taxi from Corfu town or the airport area. Your skipper meets you at the yacht, explains the safety points and the plan for the day, and you sail out of the bay towards the open water of the north-east coast.
Barbati Beach Beneath Mount Pantokrator
The first stop is usually Barbati, a long beach of white pebbles on the north-east coast, set below the steep, olive-covered slopes of Mount Pantokrator, the highest mountain on Corfu at about 900 metres. The water here is famously clear, shifting from emerald near the shore to deep blue further out, and the seabed drops gently, which makes it ideal for swimming from the yacht.
Anchored off Barbati, you can swim, float or snorkel over the pebbles and rocks, where small fish gather in the shade of the boat. Is Barbati worth visiting? It is one of the most beautiful beaches on this side of Corfu, and seeing it from your own yacht, away from the sunbeds, is the best way to enjoy it.
Gialiskari Cove: Snorkelling and Cliff Jumping
Further along the coast the skipper heads to Gialiskari, a small, rocky cove surrounded by pine and olive trees. Its clear, sheltered water and low rock ledges make it a favourite spot for snorkelling and for cliff jumping into deep water, for those who want a little adventure. Snorkelling gear is not included, so bring your own mask and snorkel if you plan to explore the rocks.
This is also where the skipper serves the snack on board: fresh sandwiches, fruit, soft drinks and water, enjoyed at anchor with the coast all around. Because the yacht is private, there is no rush to move on, and you can ask the skipper for more time in the water or a quiet hour on deck before heading back.
Sea Caves of the North-East Coast
The limestone coast between Barbati and Gouvia hides small sea caves and grottoes, carved by the waves over thousands of years. On the return leg the skipper stops at one of these caves so you can see the light play on the water inside and, when the sea is calm, swim or snorkel near the entrance.
The colours inside the caves are at their best when the sun is high, which makes the half-day timing ideal. If the sea is too lively, the skipper chooses a safer spot or views the cave from the yacht, as safety always comes first. These hidden corners are hard to reach from land, which is why a private Corfu sailing trip is such a special way to discover them.
Sailing the Corfu Strait
North of Corfu town the island and the mainland come close together, separated by a narrow strait with the mountains of Albania rising on the other side. This sheltered stretch of sea is one of the most pleasant sailing areas in the Ionian: in summer a steady north-westerly breeze known locally as maistros usually fills in during the afternoon, perfect for setting the sails and enjoying the quiet motion of the yacht.
How to choose between the half day and the full day? The half-day trip, with an 11:00 or 13:00 start, covers Barbati, Gialiskari and a sea cave in about five hours. The full-day private option gives you about ten hours, more swim stops and a longer sail shaped by the wind. The best time to sail in Corfu is from May to October, with June and September offering warm water and quieter anchorages.
