Milos
Plan Milos with Haqqi Tours: day tours, private airport transfers, attraction tickets and packages, run by our own team and confirmed on WhatsApp in Arabic or English.
At first light on the north coast of Milos, Sarakiniko looks like another planet. Smooth white rock curves down to the sea in waves and ridges, carved by wind and water into gullies and arches, and the water below is an impossible shade of turquoise. Fishermen's boats pass slowly offshore, gulls call above the cliffs, and as the sun rises the stone turns from pale grey to dazzling white.

Milos is a volcanic island in the south-western Cyclades, shaped by ancient eruptions into a coastline of coloured cliffs, sea caves and hidden coves. Its villages are small and authentic, from hilltop Plaka with its castle views to Klima, where fishermen's houses with painted doors sit right at the water's edge. It is an island best explored by sea, with boat trips revealing beaches that no road can reach.
Why include Milos in your itinerary?
- A coastline like no other. Volcanic rock in white, red, ochre and purple forms the moonscape of Sarakiniko, the arches of Kleftiko and the coves of Firopotamos and Papafragas, making Milos one of the most striking islands in Greece.
- Boat trips to secret coves. Many of the island's most beautiful places, including the sea caves and rock arches of Kleftiko, can only be reached by boat, and a day at sea is the highlight of almost every visit.
- Authentic villages and sunsets. Plaka, Tripiti and the fishing hamlets of Klima and Mandrakia keep a quiet, traditional rhythm, and sunset from the castle hill above Plaka is one of the finest views in the Cyclades.
Signature experiences in Milos
Kleftiko by Boat
On the south-west coast, Kleftiko is a cluster of white rock pillars, arches and sea caves rising from deep turquoise water, once a hideout for pirates. Boats anchor in the bay so you can swim and snorkel among the rocks. Full-day trips also stop at Gerakas, Sykia cave and the beaches of the south, with lunch and soft drinks on board. We book shared and private boat trips with transfers to the port.
Sarakiniko and the North Coast
Sarakiniko's white volcanic rocks are best seen in the soft light of early morning or late afternoon, when the stone glows and the coves are quiet. Nearby, Papafragas is a narrow inlet between cliffs, and Mandrakia and Firopotamos are tiny fishing harbours with colourful boathouses and clear water. Our team plans your route along this coast with a private car and driver.
Plaka, the Castle Hill and the Catacombs
Plaka is the island's hilltop capital, with white lanes, small museums and a path up to the castle site, where the sunset view stretches across the bay. Below, at Tripiti, the early Christian catacombs are among the most important in the Mediterranean, and a short walk leads to the ancient theatre overlooking the sea. Our guided tours by vehicle link these sites in one relaxed afternoon.
Klima and the Fishing Villages
Klima is a row of traditional fishermen's houses called syrmata, built at the water's edge with brightly painted doors and balconies, and boat garages on the ground floor. Firopotamos and Mandrakia share the same simple charm. These villages are wonderful in the late afternoon light, and our team can include them in a private island tour by vehicle.
Polyaigos, Kimolos and Island Cruises
North-east of Milos, the uninhabited island of Polyaigos has some of the clearest water in the Aegean, and the quiet island of Kimolos keeps a traditional village and sandy coves. Day cruises sail to both, with swimming stops in turquoise bays, lunch and soft drinks on board. We book shared and private cruises and arrange your transfer from the hotel to the port.
Neighbourhoods and quarters to know in Milos
Adamas
Adamas is the island's port and main village, with ferries, boat trips, shops, restaurants and many hotels. It is the most practical base for first-time visitors, with car hire, buses and taxis close by. The atmosphere is relaxed and family friendly, and the sheltered bay has calm water and pleasant seaside cafés.
Plaka and Tripiti
Plaka and the neighbouring village of Tripiti sit on the hillside above the bay, with traditional houses, small guesthouses and wonderful sunset views. They suit couples and travellers who enjoy village life and quiet evenings. Lanes are narrow and some hotels are reached on foot, while beaches and Adamas are a short drive away.
Pollonia
Pollonia is a fishing village on the north-east coast, with a sandy beach, a small harbour and seafront tavernas. It is calm and charming, ideal for couples and families who want a slower pace. Boats to Kimolos leave from here, and Sarakiniko and Papafragas are close by, though a car or driver is useful for the rest of the island.
Klima and the Bay
A few guesthouses in Klima and nearby fishing villages let you sleep in a converted fisherman's house right above the water. It is a unique and romantic experience, suited to couples looking for something special. Facilities are very limited, so it works best for travellers with a car or private transfers.
How long to stay in Milos and how to pair it
Recommended stay
We recommend four nights in Milos. Spend one full day on a boat trip to Kleftiko, one on Sarakiniko and the north coast villages, one in Plaka, the catacombs and Klima at sunset, and one on a cruise to Polyaigos and Kimolos. With five nights, slow down and add beach time.
How to pair it
Milos pairs naturally with Athens, a short flight or several hours by ferry away, for the Acropolis and the city museums. A seven-day trip combines Athens and Milos. In ten days, add Santorini or Paros for contrasting Cycladic islands. A fourteen-day journey can link Athens, Milos, Paros, Naxos and Santorini at a relaxed pace.
Best time to visit Milos and the rhythm of the day
Best months
The best time to visit Milos is from late May to June and in September and early October, when the sea is warm and boat trips sail in calm conditions. July and August are hot and busy, and the strong meltemi wind can cancel boat trips on some days. In winter the island is very quiet, with many hotels closed.
The daily rhythm
Days in Milos start slowly, with a morning swim or an early visit to Sarakiniko before the crowds. Boat trips leave mid-morning and return in the late afternoon. On other days, lunch is long and relaxed by the sea, and evenings begin with sunset in Plaka and dinner in the village lanes or by the harbour in Adamas.
On-the-ground logistics in Milos
Arrival
Most visitors arrive by ferry at Adamas port, about three hours from Piraeus by fast ferry or up to seven hours by conventional ferry. The small Milos Airport, a few kilometres south-east of Adamas, has short flights from Athens. We issue ferry and flight tickets, and our private airport transfers meet you at the airport or port and take you straight to your hotel.
Getting around
Milos is best explored with a car or driver, as public buses are limited and roads to the beaches can be unpaved. Adamas and Plaka are walkable, and boats are the only way to reach Kleftiko and many coves. A private car with driver arranged by our team is the most comfortable way to combine the villages, beaches and viewpoints.
Local etiquette tip
Milos is relaxed and friendly, but churches expect covered shoulders and knees. Keep swimwear for the beach, and respect private property in the fishing villages, where the houses are private residences. A greeting of kalimera is always welcome. Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory, and taking all rubbish with you from the beaches is much appreciated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask most about Milos.
Where should first-time visitors stay in Milos?
First-time visitors usually stay in Adamas, the port village, close to ferries, boat trips, restaurants and car hire. For a quieter village atmosphere and sunset views, Plaka and Tripiti are lovely, and Pollonia suits couples and families. Our team can suggest a hotel in any area and arrange your private airport or port transfer.
Can Milos be done as a day trip from Athens, or does it need an overnight stay?
A day trip from Athens is not practical, as ferries take several hours and flights are limited. Milos needs at least three or four nights to enjoy a boat trip to Kleftiko, Sarakiniko, the villages and the beaches without rushing. We arrange ferry and flight tickets, private transfers and boat trips to fit your plans.
What is the dress code and etiquette in Milos?
Milos is relaxed, but modest clothing with covered shoulders and knees is expected inside churches. Swimwear belongs on the beach. Respect the privacy of residents in the fishing villages and keep beaches clean. A greeting in Greek is warmly received. Our guides explain local customs on the way.
Is Milos tourist friendly, and is halal food available?
Yes. Milos welcomes visitors from around the world, and hotels and tavernas are used to many nationalities. Halal-certified food is not available on the island, but fresh fish, seafood, vegetable dishes, local cheese pies and salads are easy to find. There is no mosque on Milos; the nearest official mosque is in Athens. Our team can advise you.
Is it safe to travel to Milos now?
Milos is generally considered very safe, with low crime and a friendly local community. The main care points are cliff edges, slippery rocks and sea conditions on windy days, so follow your boat crew's advice. Before departure, check your own government's official travel advice, and keep our WhatsApp line handy throughout your stay.
What are the must-do things in Milos?
The must-do things in Milos include a boat trip to Kleftiko, Sarakiniko at sunrise, sunset in Plaka, the fishing village of Klima, the catacombs and ancient theatre, Papafragas and a cruise to Polyaigos and Kimolos. Our boat trips and private tours combine these at a relaxed pace.
How many days do you need in Milos?
Four days is ideal for Milos: one for a boat trip to Kleftiko, one for Sarakiniko and the north coast, one for Plaka, the catacombs and Klima, and one for Polyaigos and Kimolos. Three days cover the highlights at a quicker rhythm, while five allow time for spare windy days.
What can I book in Milos with Haqqi Tours?
Day tours, private airport transfers, flight tickets and ferry tickets, including Kleftiko and West Milos Half-Day Catamaran Cruise, Kleftiko Sunset Catamaran Cruise with Meal Milos and Milos Archaeology and Sarakiniko Guided Island Tour. Each has its own page, and the WhatsApp desk combines any of them into one plan with one written price.
How do I get from the airport to my hotel in Milos?
Milos Airport (MLO) is a small airport about 5 km south-east of Adamas, about 10 minutes by car, with short flights from Athens; Plaka is about 9 km and Pollonia about 12 km away. Our private transfer meets you at arrivals with a name board, tracks your flight and takes you door to door at a fixed price for the whole vehicle; the transfer pages list every route.
Is there public transport from the airport to Milos?
Fast ferries from Piraeus take about three hours and conventional ferries up to seven, and short flights link Milos Airport with Athens. Buses are limited and many beach roads are unpaved, while Kleftiko is reached only by boat, so a private car is the easiest way to move between the port, villages and beaches. With luggage, a family or a late flight, the private car is the simpler choice.
Which tours are available in Milos?
Among them: Kleftiko and West Milos Half-Day Catamaran Cruise, Kleftiko Sunset Catamaran Cruise with Meal Milos, Milos Archaeology and Sarakiniko Guided Island Tour, Private Milos Island Tour with Sarakiniko and Hotel Pickup and Milos and Polyaigos Full-Day Sailing Cruise with Lunch. Each page says whether the day is private or small-group, what it includes and how long it lasts.
Are the tours private or in a group?
Both exist, and each tour page says which. A private tour has a vehicle and guide for your party alone; the desk can make most group tours private on request.
How do I book?
Fill in the form on any page or message us on WhatsApp with the date, the number of travellers and the hotel. A member of our team confirms the price and the details in writing within minutes.
Are the prices fixed?
Yes - every price is agreed in writing on WhatsApp before you travel and does not change on the day.
Do the drivers and guides speak Arabic or English?
It depends on the city and the day, so we do not promise a particular language; tell us your preference and we do our best. The WhatsApp desk always works in Arabic and English.
Can I change or cancel a booking in Milos?
Yes, in the same WhatsApp conversation. The terms depend on the product and on how close to the date the change comes; the desk states them before you pay.
