Paros
Plan Paros with Haqqi Tours: day tours, private airport transfers, attraction tickets and packages, run by our own team and confirmed on WhatsApp in Arabic or English.
Early morning in Naoussa, the little harbour is still quiet. Fishing boats painted blue, red and yellow knock gently against the quay, nets lie drying in the sun, and the broken walls of a small Venetian fortress guard the entrance to the port. In the lanes behind, a baker sweeps his doorstep, bougainvillea spills over white walls, and the smell of coffee drifts from a café where fishermen talk about the wind.

Paros sits at the heart of the Cyclades, famous since ancient times for its pure white marble. It is an island of balance: lively but never overwhelming, with whitewashed villages, golden beaches, Byzantine churches and green inland hills. Its small sister island, Antiparos, lies a few minutes away by ferry, and Naxos, Mykonos and Santorini are all within easy reach by boat.
Why include Paros in your itinerary?
- Picture-perfect Cycladic villages. Naoussa's fishing harbour, the hillside village of Lefkes and the old quarter of Parikia offer classic white lanes, blue doors and quiet squares, with far fewer crowds than the most famous islands nearby.
- Beaches and turquoise water. From the smooth granite rocks of Kolymbithres to the long sands of Golden Beach and Santa Maria, Paros has beaches for families, swimmers and wind sports lovers, with calm bays on almost every coast.
- Antiparos and island hopping. A short ferry links Paros with relaxed Antiparos, its cave and its turquoise coves, while frequent ferries make Paros a perfect central base for exploring Naxos, Mykonos and Santorini.
Signature experiences in Paros
Parikia and Panagia Ekatontapiliani
Parikia, the island's port and capital, hides one of the most important Byzantine churches in Greece, Panagia Ekatontapiliani, the Church of a Hundred Doors, with chapels, a baptistery and a peaceful courtyard. Behind it, the old town's lanes lead to a medieval castle wall built with ancient marble blocks. Our team plans your visit around opening hours and the cooler parts of the day.
Naoussa Harbour and the North
Naoussa is the island's most photogenic village, with a tiny harbour, a ruined Venetian fortress and lanes full of boutiques and seafood restaurants. Nearby, the bay of Kolymbithres has strange granite rocks shaped by the wind and small coves of clear water. We arrange private transfers to Naoussa and can include it in a relaxed island tour with a guide by vehicle.
Lefkes and the Inland Villages
In the green hills of central Paros, Lefkes is a graceful village of white houses, marble lanes and a large church overlooking olive groves. Nearby, Marpissa and Prodromos keep a quiet traditional life, and the ancient marble quarries at Marathi show where Parian marble was cut for statues and temples. A private car with driver arranged by our team links these villages in a half day.
Antiparos and its Cave
Antiparos is reached in about ten minutes by car ferry from Pounta. Its small harbour village has a castle quarter and a relaxed square, and in the hills the Cave of Antiparos descends deep underground among stalactites and stalagmites. We book ferry crossings and boat trips and can arrange a private car to the cave and the island's quiet southern beaches.
Boat Trips to Despotiko and the Coves
Boat trips from Paros and Antiparos sail to the uninhabited island of Despotiko, with an ancient sanctuary of Apollo, and to turquoise lagoons and sandy bays between the islets. Swimming and snorkelling stops, lunch and soft drinks on board make it a perfect summer day. We book shared and private boat trips with transfers to the port from your hotel.
Neighbourhoods and quarters to know in Paros
Parikia
Parikia is the main port and capital, with the ferry terminal, the big Byzantine church, the old town and a long seafront with cafés and sunset views. It is the most practical base for island hopping and first-time visitors, with buses to every corner of the island. It is lively in summer and pleasant all year.
Naoussa
Naoussa is the island's stylish village in the north, with a picturesque harbour, boutiques and many restaurants. It suits couples and travellers who want atmosphere and good food in the evenings, and beaches such as Kolymbithres and Santa Maria are nearby. It is busy in July and August, so book hotels early.
Golden Beach and the South-East
The south-east coast around Golden Beach, Drios and Piso Livadi offers long sandy beaches, steady summer winds and quieter hotels. It is ideal for families, beach lovers and windsurfers, with small fishing harbours and seaside tavernas. A car or private transfers help, as the coast is spread out between villages.
Lefkes and the Interior
Staying in Lefkes or nearby villages means calm evenings, cooler air and wide views over the hills to the sea. Guesthouses here are small and charming, suited to couples and repeat visitors who prefer peace to nightlife. Beaches and Parikia are a short drive away, so it works best with a car or driver.
How long to stay in Paros and how to pair it
Recommended stay
We recommend four nights in Paros. Spend one day in Parikia and Lefkes, one in Naoussa and on the northern beaches, one on Antiparos and its cave, and one on a boat trip to Despotiko. With five or six nights, add a day trip to Naxos or Mykonos by ferry.
How to pair it
Paros pairs naturally with Naxos, under an hour away by ferry, and with Santorini or Mykonos, both a short sea crossing away. A seven-day trip combines Athens and Paros. In ten days, add Naxos or Santorini. A fourteen-day journey can link Athens, Paros, Naxos, Santorini and Mykonos for a full Cyclades experience.
Best time to visit Paros and the rhythm of the day
Best months
The best time to visit Paros is from late May to June and in September and early October, when the sea is warm and the island relaxed. July and August are hot, busy and windy, ideal for windsurfers but sometimes rough for boats. In winter many hotels close and ferries run less often.
The daily rhythm
Days in Paros begin slowly with breakfast and a morning swim. Villages and churches are best visited before midday, followed by a long lunch by the sea. Afternoons are for the beach or a boat trip, and evenings start late with sunset in Parikia and dinner in the lanes of Naoussa.
On-the-ground logistics in Paros
Arrival
Most visitors arrive by ferry at Parikia port, about three to four hours from Piraeus, or two and a half hours by fast ferry. The small Paros Airport near Alyki, in the south, has short flights from Athens. We issue ferry and flight tickets, and our private airport transfers meet you at the airport or port and take you straight to your hotel.
Getting around
Paros is easy to explore. Local buses link Parikia with Naoussa, Lefkes, Golden Beach and the main villages, and the short car ferry from Pounta crosses to Antiparos. Taxis are limited in high season. A private car with driver arranged by our team is the most comfortable way to see the villages, beaches and Antiparos in one day.
Local etiquette tip
Paros is relaxed, but churches and monasteries expect covered shoulders and knees. Keep swimwear for the beach and dress casually in the villages. Greet locals with kalimera, and be patient with the slow island rhythm, especially in the afternoon. Tipping is not obligatory, but rounding up the bill is appreciated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask most about Paros.
Where should first-time visitors stay in Paros?
First-time visitors usually stay in Parikia, close to the port, buses and restaurants, or in Naoussa for a livelier village atmosphere. For quiet beach days, Golden Beach and the south-east coast are excellent. Our team can suggest a hotel in any area and arrange your private airport or port transfer.
Can Paros be done as a day trip from Naxos, or does it need an overnight stay?
A day trip from Naxos is possible, as the ferry takes under an hour, but you will only see Parikia or Naoussa briefly. Paros and Antiparos deserve at least three or four nights for the villages, beaches, cave and boat trips. We arrange ferry tickets, private transfers and tours to fit your plans.
What is the dress code and etiquette in Paros?
Paros is relaxed, but modest clothing with covered shoulders and knees is expected inside churches and monasteries. Swimwear belongs on the beach. A greeting in Greek is warmly received, and respecting quiet afternoon hours in the villages is appreciated. Our guides explain local customs on the way.
Is Paros tourist friendly, and is halal food available?
Yes. Paros welcomes visitors from all over the world, and English is widely spoken. Halal-certified food is rare on the island, but fresh fish, seafood, vegetable dishes, salads and local cheeses are easy to find. There is no mosque on Paros; the nearest official mosque is in Athens. Our team can advise on suitable restaurants.
Is it safe to travel to Paros now?
Paros is generally considered very safe, with low crime and a welcoming local community. Take normal care with belongings, drive carefully on narrow roads and respect sea conditions on windy days.
