Full Description

Piso Livadi and the east coast of Paros

Piso Livadi is a small fishing harbour on the east coast of Paros, with a short sandy beach, a few cafés and colourful boats moored along the quay. It sits below the inland village of Lefkes and is about 20 to 30 minutes by car or taxi from Parikia, Naoussa and the other main resorts, which makes it a convenient and quiet place to start a day at sea.

From here the sailing boat heads east across the open water towards the Small Cyclades, a chain of low islands between Naxos and Amorgos. As the coast of Paros falls behind, the skipper explains the route and the wind, and guests who want to try can help with the ropes and sails. Others simply settle on deck and watch the islands appear on the horizon.

Iraklia and the seaplane of Alimia bay

Iraklia is the largest of the Small Cyclades but one of the least visited, with a single small port, a hilltop village and rugged hills crossed by goat paths. Many travellers wonder how to get to Iraklia, as ferries are infrequent; arriving by private sailing boat lets you see its wildest coast without planning around timetables.

The first stop is Alimia bay on the north-east coast, a deep turquoise inlet with a small beach. On its seabed, at a depth that is easy to see with a mask on calm days, lies a seaplane that sank here during the Second World War, now covered in sea life. You have time to snorkel over the wreck, swim to the beach or float in the sheltered water before lunch.

Schinoussa, the quiet island

Schinoussa is a tiny island of gentle hills, stone walls and small sandy beaches, with a little hilltop village and a close-knit community of fishermen and farmers. It is known among sailors for its calm atmosphere and clear water, and it is one of the best places in the Cyclades to experience island life without crowds.

The boat anchors in one of its sheltered bays, and while you swim and snorkel the crew prepares a fresh Greek-style lunch on board, served with soft drinks on deck. This is the longest stop of the day, so there is time to relax after eating, go back into the water or rest in the shade. On a private boat you can ask the skipper to stay a little longer here if the wind and the day's plan allow.

The south coast of Naxos

On the way back the boat stops on the south side of Naxos, the biggest island of the Cyclades, where long sandy beaches and quiet coves sit below the slopes of Mount Zas. The water here is clear and often shallow near the shore, a lovely place for the final swim of the day.

The crew serves a fresh fruit dessert while you enjoy the view, then the sails go up for the return to Piso Livadi, usually with the afternoon breeze behind the boat. The best time to sail the Small Cyclades is from late May to June and in September, when the sea is warm and the winds are lighter; in July and August the meltemi can make the crossing livelier, and the skipper adapts the route for comfort and safety.

Meeting point

The boat leaves from the port of Piso Livadi on the east coast of Paros at 09:30; please arrive 15 minutes early. Hotel pickup is not included. Important information

  • Bring swimwear, a towel, sunglasses, a sun hat, sunscreen and a light jacket for the sail back
  • Soft-soled shoes or bare feet on deck; avoid black soles that mark the boat
  • The itinerary depends on the wind: the skipper may change stops or the route for safety, especially on strong meltemi days in July and August
  • A sailing boat leans with the wind; if you are prone to seasickness, take your usual remedy before boarding
  • Tell us about dietary needs when booking so we can share them with the crew; halal meat is limited in the Cyclades, so a fish or vegetarian lunch is the simplest choice

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.

Is this tour private?

Yes. The whole sailing boat, skipper and crew are reserved for your group only; no other passengers join.

Can we change the itinerary or the pace?

Within the day you can choose to swim longer at one stop or rest more on board, and the skipper will adapt where possible. The islands visited depend on the wind, and safety decisions are always the skipper's.

How many people fit on the boat?

Up to 10 guests can join this private sailing day, which makes it ideal for families and groups of friends.

Is the price per person or per group?

The price is for the whole private boat, for a group of up to 10 guests. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.

Is hotel pickup included?

No. You make your own way to Piso Livadi port, about 20 to 30 minutes by car or taxi from the main resorts of Paros. We are happy to advise on getting there.

The private sailing boat with experienced skipper and crew, lunch prepared on board with soft drinks, a fruit dessert, snorkelling gear and swim stops at secluded bays. Hotel transfers and tips are not included.

How long is the tour?

About 9 hours, from 09:30 to around 18:30.

Is it suitable for children or people with reduced mobility?

Children from 2 years old are welcome and usually love swimming from the boat; they should be confident in the water or wear a life jacket. The tour is not suitable for pregnant women or people with mobility impairments, as moving around a sailing boat requires good balance.
