Heraklion Airport (HER) is about 5 km east of central Heraklion and about 80 km east of Rethymno, roughly an hour and a quarter by car on the north coast national road.
Heraklion Port is on the Venetian harbour at the edge of the old town, about 5 km west of the airport, with ferries to Piraeus and the Cyclades and berths for cruise ships.
