Full Description
Slides and the wave pool
Lido Water Park is a large open-air park set among gardens and palm trees just outside the village of Mastichari, about 25 kilometres west of Kos town. Its main attractions are the slides: a giant slide with long curves, a multi-lane racing slide where friends and families can compete side by side, the near-vertical Kamikaze for the bravest and the Black Hole, an enclosed tube where you twist and turn in darkness before splashing into the pool.
Between slides, the wave pool recreates the feeling of the sea with regular sets of waves, a favourite with teenagers and adults alike. Lifeguards watch every pool and slide, and the rules for each ride, including minimum height, are clearly posted at the entrance to the slide towers.
The kids' area, Lazy River and jacuzzi
Younger children have their own interactive kids' area, a colourful play structure with small slides, water cannons, waterfalls and a big rotating bucket that tips water over everyone below. The water here is shallow, and parents can watch from the sunbeds nearby, which makes the park an easy choice for a family day out on Kos.
For slower moments, the Lazy River carries you gently around the park on a float, and the jacuzzi is perfect after a morning on the slides. Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas surround the pools, and cafés sell snacks, ice cream and cold drinks at your own expense. Many families ask whether Lido Water Park is worth visiting: with something for every age, from toddlers to grandparents, it is one of the most popular days out on the island.
Planning your visit: hours and getting there
The park is open in the summer season, usually from late spring to early autumn. Lido Water Park opening hours are generally 10:00 to 18:00; with the default option, the coach brings you to the park around opening time and collects you at about 16:30 for the trip back to your hotel, so you enjoy a full day without driving.
If you prefer to travel independently, the ticket-only option lets you arrive and leave when you like. For anyone wondering how to get to Lido Water Park on their own, Mastichari is about 30 minutes by car from Kos town and is served by local buses. Arrive early in July and August to find a good spot in the shade, and bring sunscreen, as most of the park is open to the sun.
Mastichari village and beach
Mastichari, the village next to the park, is a relaxed resort on the north coast of Kos with a long sandy beach and shallow, clear water. It is also a small port, with boats to the neighbouring islands of Kalymnos and Pserimos, and its waterfront is lined with fish tavernas and cafés.
If you choose the ticket-only option, you can combine the water park with an evening swim on Mastichari beach, where the sunset over the sea is beautiful. Nearby, the north-coast beaches of Marmari and Tigaki offer more soft sand and calm water. Halal food is limited on Kos, but grilled fish, salads and vegetarian dishes are easy to find in Mastichari and in the park's cafés.
