Full Description

Laganas Bay and the Zakynthos marine park

Laganas Bay is the wide bay on the south of Zakynthos, backed by long sandy beaches, and it lies at the heart of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. The park protects the nesting beaches of loggerhead turtles, which come ashore in summer to lay their eggs, and the calm shallow water makes the bay a favourite feeding area.

The tour starts from the port, and you ride across the bay at speed before slowing down in the turtle area. Because the park has strict rules, the boat keeps a respectful distance and moves slowly near wildlife. If you are looking for a Laganas Bay boat tour, this one is designed around wildlife first, and the live guide explains the rules and the turtle life cycle.

Turtle spotting in the marine park

The main aim of the trip is to see loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) surface in the water. The guide and the skipper watch for them, and when one appears the boat slows or stops so that you can take photos from a safe distance. You do not chase or touch the turtles, which protects the animals and keeps the experience natural.

Sightings depend on the day, the time and the sea, so they cannot be guaranteed, but the tour is planned for the times and places when turtles are most often seen. Many guests ask whether Zakynthos turtle tours are worth it, and the answer is yes for anyone who enjoys wildlife and short boat trips.

Myzithres rocks on the south-west coast

Myzithres, also written Mizithres, is the name of two pale limestone rocks that rise from the sea off the south-west coast of Zakynthos, near the village of Keri. The name comes from mizithra, a soft white cheese, which the rocks resemble. Behind them the cliffs drop steeply into deep blue water.

The speedboat takes you close to the rocks for photos and views of the cliffs. It is one of the most photographed spots on the south-west coast, and seeing it from the sea gives a different angle than from the Myzithres viewpoint on land. For a land visit at sunset, see our Keri Lake sunset tour.

Swim stops and how the option works

The tour includes three swim stops in clear water at places chosen by the skipper according to the sea and the wind. Bring swimwear, a towel and sunscreen, and take your camera in a waterproof case if you have one. Food and drinks are not included.

The departure times of 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00 let you choose a morning, midday or late afternoon trip, and the booking panel shows which are available on your date.
