Full Description

Polignano a Mare on the Adriatic cliffs

Polignano a Mare is the first stop and the town most people picture for a Polignano a Mare day trip from Bari. The old centre stands on a limestone headland, with lanes that end at terraces over the sea, a Roman bridge over the Lama Monachile cove and a small pebble beach below. The coast is hollowed with caves, and the view back at the cliffs is the one on every postcard.

You have about two and a half hours here, enough to wander the old town, find the best viewpoints and, in warm months, spend time by the water. The town is also the starting point for guests joining the shorter departure.

Ostuni, the White City

Ostuni crowns three hills in the Itria countryside, and its houses are painted white, which gives the town its name, the White City of Puglia. Inside the old walls the lanes climb in steps and arches to the cathedral, with a late Gothic facade and a carved rose window, and to Piazza della Libertà, the lively heart of town. If you wonder what to see in Ostuni, the answer is the viewpoint over olive groves down to the sea.

About two and a half hours are allowed, so there is time for a coffee, the shops and the climb to the top. Comfortable shoes are important, as the old streets are steep and paved with smooth stone.

Locorotondo in the Valle d'Itria

Locorotondo is the last stop, a village of about one and a half hours' visit. Its name means round place, and the old centre follows an oval plan around the church. The houses have white walls and steep slate-grey roofs called cummerse, and the streets are paved with local stone slabs. The village has been honoured with the Orange Flag by the Italian Touring Club for its welcome to visitors.

The best views are from the edge of the old town, where the Valle d'Itria opens in a patchwork of fields, trulli and dry-stone walls. It is a quiet end to the day, and many guests find it the most relaxed of the three stops.

Is there a guide?

There is a driver and a digital audio guide in five languages, with a brochure and maps. There is no live guide on this tour.

Yes, children can join. The booking panel shows the age groups. Streets are steep, so a baby carrier is easier than a stroller.

What should I wear and bring?

Comfortable shoes, a hat, water, a light jacket and, in summer, swimwear and a towel for Polignano a Mare.

Can I book for today or tomorrow?

Availability is shown in the booking panel. Pick the date you want and you will see which departures are open.

Is Ostuni worth visiting?

Yes. Ostuni is one of the most distinctive towns in Puglia, and the viewpoint over the olive groves is a highlight of the day.

When is the best time to visit Locorotondo and Ostuni?
