Full Description

The quad base in the Padang Matsirat countryside

The adventure starts at a quad base in Kampung Lubuk Setul, in the rural Padang Matsirat area of western Langkawi, a short drive inland from the airport and the beaches of Pantai Cenang. The name Padang refers to open fields, and this is still a farming district of rice paddies, coconut palms and wooden village houses, far from the resort strip.

At the base the team fits your helmet and eye protection and gives a safety briefing covering the controls, hand signals and riding distances. Each quad is for a single rider, and a parent can carry a child under 11 on the same machine. The ride leader stays in contact with the group by walkie-talkie, so first-time riders can relax and enjoy the trail.

Jungle trails and hill tracks

Leaving the base, the route climbs into secondary rainforest on dirt tracks that twist between tall trees, bamboo and giant ferns. There are short climbs and descents, muddy patches after rain and open stretches where you can see across the island's green hills towards the mountains of the interior. The total loop covers roughly 25 kilometres over about two hours.

Is a Langkawi quad adventure worth it? If you have already seen the beaches and want something more active, it is one of the most fun ways to discover the island's wild side. The ride leader sets a pace that suits the group, stopping for photos, and nobody is pushed beyond their comfort level. Keep an eye out for monitor lizards and macaques at the edge of the forest.

Rubber plantations and village life

Part of the route crosses rubber plantations, where trees stand in neat rows and small cups collect white latex from cuts in the bark. Rubber was once a pillar of the Malaysian economy, and many families on Langkawi still tap trees in the early morning before the heat. Riding through the plantations is cool and shady, with the canopy closing overhead.

Between forest sections the track passes through village lanes and open countryside, where buffalo graze, children wave and small mosques serve each community. It is a glimpse of everyday rural Langkawi that most visitors never see. Please slow down in villages and respect local residents, as the ride leader will remind you.

Waterfall break and swim

Midway through the ride you park the quads and take a break of 10 to 15 minutes at a jungle waterfall, where fresh water tumbles over rocks into a natural pool. You can swim, stand under the falls or just sit on the rocks and cool down while drinking water is handed out.

The best time to visit for this adventure is during the drier months from about November to April, when the trails are firmer and the pool is clear. In the rainy season the tracks are muddier and more exciting, and the waterfall is fuller, but you will get dirtier. Wear clothes you do not mind getting muddy, and bring swimwear and a towel.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.

Is this a shared or a private tour?

It is a small-group shared adventure with a ride leader, limited to ten participants. Your quad is yours alone, and you ride in a line behind the leader.

Is hotel pickup included?

Yes, the default option includes two-way pickup from anywhere in Langkawi except the Datai area. Another option lets you meet directly at the quad base.

Do I need experience to ride a quad?

No. The team gives a safety briefing at the base, the leader sets an easy pace for beginners and stays in touch by walkie-talkie.

What is included?

Quad rental for a single rider, helmet and eye protection, walkie-talkie contact with the ride leader, the waterfall break with optional swim, drinking water and, in the default option, two-way transfers.

How long is the adventure?

About two hours of riding, plus transfer time. Rides start at 10:00 and 14:30.

Is the price per person or per group?

The price is per rider. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.

Can children join?

Yes. Children under 11 ride along with a parent or guardian on the same quad. Tell us the ages of the children when booking.

Is it suitable for reduced mobility?

No. Quad riding is physical and bumpy, so it is not suitable for wheelchair users, pregnant women or anyone with back or neck problems.

What should I wear and bring?

Closed shoes, clothes that can get muddy, swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes, sunscreen and insect repellent.

What if it rains?

Light rain makes the trails muddier but the ride usually goes ahead. In heavy storms the leader may shorten or adjust the route for safety.

Is morning or afternoon better?

The 10:00 ride is cooler; the 14:30 ride is warmer, so the waterfall swim feels even better. November to April has the driest trails.

How do I book and confirm?

Choose your date and time in the booking panel and send your request. Our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes and shares the pickup details the day before.
