Full Description

The Cenotes Route in the Riviera Maya Jungle

The Cenotes Route, or Ruta de los Cenotes, is a road that runs inland from the coast near Puerto Morelos, about 40 minutes south of the Cancun hotel zone. Along it, low tropical forest hides dozens of natural sinkholes and adventure parks, making it one of the best areas for a jungle day trip from Cancun without a long drive.

The eco-adventure park on this tour sits just off the route, in the dense green jungle of the Yucatán Peninsula. Here the flat limestone ground is covered with chacá and ramón trees, and the air is warm and humid all year. A Riviera Maya quad tour here feels far from the beaches and hotels, yet the transfer from Cancun is short, leaving plenty of time for the activities.

Quad Bike Trails through the Mayan Jungle

The highlight for many is the quad ride: about 30 minutes on trails designed to be muddy, dusty and bumpy, with puddles, tight curves and short climbs. Instructors give a safety briefing and a practice lap first, then lead the group in a line through the forest, so beginners can join with confidence. Expect to get dirty, especially after rain.

In the default option two people share one quad, and the driver must be at least 16 with an adult, or 18 to drive alone; younger participants ride as passengers. A valid driving licence is required for drivers. A separate option with a single quad is available for adults who want their own machine. Helmets and quad insurance are included, and the tour runs rain or shine.

Zipline Circuit and Skyboard

After the quads, you climb to the platforms of a three-line zipline circuit that crosses the jungle canopy. Each line gives a different view over the treetops, and the instructors check your harness at every station, so the experience is thrilling but carefully managed. The circuit takes around 30 minutes.

Next comes the skyboard, a balance activity in the treetops that tests your coordination and makes for big laughs in the group. There are safety limits for the zipline: a maximum weight of 120 kilograms and a maximum waist size of 1.24 metres, and every participant must be at least one metre tall. For safety, cameras and mobile phones are not permitted during the adventure activities, so leave them in a locker.

Swimming in Cenote Verde Lucero

Cenotes are natural sinkholes formed when the limestone of the Yucatán collapsed over underground rivers. The ancient Maya saw them as sacred openings to the underworld and relied on them for fresh water. Cenote Verde Lucero is an open cenote ringed by rock and jungle, with clear green water that stays cool all year.

After the heat of the trails, about 45 minutes of swimming here is the perfect reward. Life jackets are available and showers are used before entering to keep the water clean, so please avoid sunscreen and lotions. This cenote swim from Cancun is one of the most refreshing moments of the day, and many travellers say it is the part they remember best.

Dance Show, Regional Snack and Hotel Transfers

Before heading back, you watch a short traditional dance show of about 15 minutes and enjoy a regional snack, a simple taste of Yucatán flavours after a morning of action. Drinks are not included, so bring water or buy refreshments at the park. Lockers are available for a fee paid on site, plus a refundable deposit.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included from most hotels in the Cancun pickup area. Pickup can be up to two hours before the activity start time, and the driver calls out your name at the hotel entrance. The whole experience lasts about six hours with transfers. The best time for this tour is the morning slot in summer, when the jungle is cooler, while the dry months from November to April keep the trails less muddy.
