Overview
This ticket gives you fast-track, timed entry to the Blue House, La Casa Azul, the cobalt-blue museum in Coyoacán, Mexico City, where the country's most celebrated woman painter was born, lived and worked. You explore her studio, private rooms, kitchen and garden at your own pace with a digital guide in English or Spanish, then use the same ticket to visit the Anahuacalli Museum, a striking volcanic-stone building filled with pre-Hispanic art. Timed slots here often sell out weeks ahead, so a confirmed ticket saves both queue time and disappointment. The visit is self-guided and takes about one to two hours, plus your Anahuacalli visit. A separate option for the nearby Red House museum is also available. There is no transport: you go directly to the museum entrance.

Full Description
La Casa Azul, the Blue House of Coyoacán
La Casa Azul is a single-storey colonial-style house on the corner of Londres and Allende streets in Coyoacán, painted an intense cobalt blue with red and green details. Built in 1904, it was the family house where the painter was born and later lived with her husband, also an artist; together they filled it with folk art, books and pre-Hispanic pieces. It opened as a museum in 1958 and is now one of the most visited museums in Mexico City.
Is the Blue House worth visiting? For anyone interested in Mexican art and culture, absolutely: few museums feel so personal. Rooms are kept much as they were, so you see real brushes, letters, photographs, clothing and medical corsets rather than reproductions. Plan about one to one and a half hours inside, and because timed slots sell out, Blue House tickets booked in advance are the surest way in.
Inside the Museum: Studio, Kitchen and Garden
Upstairs, the light-filled studio holds the artist's easel, paints, mirror and wheelchair, facing large windows onto the garden. Nearby are the bedrooms, with the bed and mirror she used to paint self-portraits while recovering from illness. Downstairs, the bright yellow kitchen is decorated with clay pots and small jugs arranged on the walls, a classic image of traditional Mexican style.
The leafy courtyard garden, with its small stepped pyramid displaying pre-Hispanic sculptures, is a peaceful place to pause. A separate gallery shows a rotating selection of her Tehuana dresses, jewellery and personal belongings, which were sealed away for decades and only revealed in 2004. The digital guide included with your ticket explains each room in English or Spanish, so you can move at your own pace.
Anahuacalli Museum
Your ticket also includes the Anahuacalli Museum, a monumental building of dark volcanic stone in southern Coyoacán, designed to look like a Mesoamerican temple. Its name comes from the Nahuatl language and refers to the Valley of Mexico. Inside, dim stone halls display a vast collection of pre-Hispanic sculptures, figurines and ceremonial objects from cultures across ancient Mexico.
The upper floors hold a studio space with large preparatory drawings for murals, and the roof terrace offers wide views over the lava field of El Pedregal and, on clear days, the volcanoes around the city. Anahuacalli is about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi from the Blue House and is usually much quieter. Allow about one hour, and check its opening hours, which are shorter than those of the Blue House.
Coyoacán, Opening Hours and How to Get There
Coyoacán is one of the oldest and most charming districts of Mexico City, about 10 kilometres south of the historic centre, with cobbled streets, colonial mansions and leafy squares. After your visit, the Jardín Centenario with its coyote fountain, the sixteenth-century Church of San Juan Bautista and the busy Coyoacán market are all a few blocks away, perfect for lunch or a coffee.
How to get to the Blue House: take Metro Line 3 to Coyoacán or Viveros station and walk about 15 to 20 minutes, or use a taxi, which takes around 30 minutes from Roma or Condesa depending on traffic. Blue House opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, usually 10:00 to 18:00 and from 11:00 on Wednesdays; it is closed on Mondays. Weekday mornings are the quietest time to visit.

What are the Blue House opening hours?
Usually Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, opening at 11:00 on Wednesdays, and closed on Mondays.
Why should I book Blue House tickets in advance?
