Why go early to Teotihuacan

Teotihuacan is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico, and by late morning the Avenue of the Dead can be busy and hot. An early departure lets you reach the site when it is calmer, with softer light and cooler air, which is why many travellers look for an early access Teotihuacan tour. The best time to visit Teotihuacan is first thing, before tour buses arrive in force.

The group leaves Mexico City at 6:20 AM, and the journey takes about an hour and a half including a short break. It gives a close look at the fine detail of Teotihuacan's art, in contrast to the huge scale of the pyramids.

An obsidian workshop and lunch

After the guided visit the tour stops at an obsidian craft workshop. Obsidian is volcanic glass, and it was prized in ancient Mexico for blades and tools, and the trade in it helped make Teotihuacan powerful. You learn how it is worked, and you can buy a souvenir if you wish, though there is no obligation.

The default option includes a packed lunch, while the basic option has no lunch, so choose the option that suits you. The tour lasts about eight hours and returns you to the meeting point in Mexico City. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users, and hotel pickup is not included.
