Full Description
Cabo Girão Skywalk
The Cabo Girão Skywalk is a glass-floored platform built on one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, at around 580 metres above the Atlantic. Looking straight down through the glass to the small terraced fields and the fishing boats far below is the reason most people ask whether the Cabo Girão Skywalk is worth visiting, and the answer is yes if you enjoy big views.
On this tour it is the first major stop after leaving Funchal, early enough that the light is soft and the crowds are thin. Entry to the skywalk is not included in the tour, so you decide on the day whether to step onto the glass or simply enjoy the view from the railing. Allow around half an hour for photos and a coffee before the 4x4 heads west.
Porto Moniz natural pools
Porto Moniz sits at the north-western tip of Madeira, where old lava flows formed rock pools that fill with clear seawater. The Porto Moniz natural pools are the island's best-known place for a sea swim, protected from the strong Atlantic swell by the volcanic rock. Entry to the pools is not included, so bring swimwear and a towel if you want a dip.
The village itself is small and relaxed, with a seafront walk and viewpoints along the coast road. It is also where the tour pauses for time on your own and a lunch break at a local stop. Because the weather here changes quickly, the guide watches the sea and the sky and adjusts the timing so you get the best of the stop.
Seixal, Chão da Ribeira and the Bridal Veil waterfall
Between São Vicente and Porto Moniz the road passes the Bridal Veil waterfall, a thin cascade that falls close to the road and looks like a bride's veil. Nearby Seixal is a tiny village with a black volcanic sand beach and a natural swimming area that often appears in lists of the best beaches in Europe.
Further on, the Chão da Ribeira viewpoint looks over green valleys and traditional farmland, one of the calmest and most authentic landscapes on the island. These are the stops that make a west Madeira day trip feel different from the south coast, and travelling in an open-roof 4x4 keeps you close to the smells, sounds and views.
Fanal forest and the Paúl da Serra plateau
Fanal is part of the ancient laurel forest of Madeira, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. Old til trees grow here with twisted branches covered in moss, and on misty mornings the scene feels like another world. Many visitors ask how to get to Fanal, because the last part is a rough forest road; on this tour the 4x4 takes you there and you walk among the trees with your guide.
From Fanal the route crosses Paúl da Serra, the island's vast highland plateau at around 1,400 metres, with wide views and often a sea of clouds below. The day ends with an exciting off-road descent towards Ponta do Sol, where you enjoy views over the south and south-west coast before the drive back to Funchal.

The price depends on the number of guests and their ages. The booking panel on this page shows the current price for this option, adult and child.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes. Pickup and drop-off are included from hotels in central Funchal and near the port. Pickup from outside central Funchal is not included and may involve an additional fee.
How long is the tour?
It is a full-day tour of about 8 hours from pickup to return, with a lunch break at a local stop.
Is lunch included?
The tour includes a lunch break at a local stop, but the meal itself and other food and drinks are not included.
Are the entry tickets included?
No. Entry to the Cabo Girão Skywalk and to the Porto Moniz natural pools is not included, so you choose on the day whether to go in.
Is the tour suitable for children?
Children are welcome from the age of 3. The booking panel shows how younger guests are counted. The tour is not suitable for pregnant women or wheelchair users because of the rough tracks.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable shoes, a jacket or rain gear, a sun hat, sunscreen and swimwear with a towel if you plan to swim. Large bags cannot be carried.
Can I book for today or tomorrow?
Often yes, depending on availability. Choose your date in the booking panel to see if the tour is open.

Fanal is reached by a rough mountain road, so most visitors go with a tour like this one. Our 4x4 takes you there and your guide walks with you among the old laurel trees.
Is the Porto Moniz natural pool worth visiting?
Yes, especially in warm weather. The pools are cut into volcanic rock beside the sea, and the tour leaves time to see them and have lunch nearby.
