Full Description

Edge at Hudson Yards

Edge is at 30 Hudson Yards, at about 1,100 feet the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere when it opened in 2020. It juts out from the building above Manhattan's west side, so you look south towards the Statue of Liberty, east across Midtown and north along the Hudson. People searching for Edge observation deck tickets often want a modern, open-air alternative to the older observatories.

To get there, take the 7 train to 34th Street-Hudson Yards or walk from the High Line, and follow the signs through the shopping centre to the Edge entrance. Opening hours change by day and season, so check the booking panel.

The outdoor sky deck and glass floor

The main attraction is the triangular outdoor deck, surrounded by angled glass walls that lean out over the city. Standing at the edge, you feel as if you are leaning into the sky. A section of glass floor lets you look straight down at the streets far below.

Skyline Seats, angled seating on the deck, let you sit back and watch the light change, and Eastern Point gives a quieter corner with a view across to the East River. On a clear day the panorama reaches for many miles.

The indoor levels and the Vessel

Before you reach the deck you pass through an indoor experience with installations and screens that introduce the city's places and stories. Inside the building there is also an indoor sky deck for shelter when it is cold or windy, together with a café.

Your default ticket also includes the Vessel, the honeycomb-shaped sculpture and stairway next door. Access to the Vessel is set by Hudson Yards and can change, so check on the day. Is Edge worth it? For a modern, open-air view, yes.

Planning your Edge visit

The best time to visit Edge is around sunset, when the city changes colour and the lights come on, though this is the busiest time. If you want quieter conditions, go on a weekday morning. Your default ticket is flexible, so you can decide when to visit on the day.

Allow around an hour on the deck. Nearby, you can walk the High Line, visit The Shed or explore the Hudson Yards shops. Food, transport and guiding are not included, and there are plenty of places to eat around Hudson Yards afterwards.
