Full Description
Philae Temple, the island of Isis
Philae Temple is the first stop of this Aswan to Luxor cruise and one of the most beautiful sites in Egypt. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, it was built mainly under the Ptolemies and Romans, with the last known hieroglyphic inscription dated to 394 AD. When the High Dam threatened the original island, the whole complex was moved stone by stone to nearby Agilkia Island in the 1970s.
You reach it by short motorboat ride, which already feels like an arrival. Your guide leads you through the first pylon, the birth house, the hypostyle hall and Trajan's Kiosk by the water. Allow about ninety minutes. Early morning is cooler and the stone looks golden against the Nile.
Abu Simbel, the optional day trip
Abu Simbel is the optional highlight of this cruise and is included in the options that say so. The two temples were carved into a cliff by Ramses II in the thirteenth century BC, and the Great Temple is guarded by four seated statues about twenty metres high. A second temple honours his queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor.
Because Abu Simbel lies about 280 kilometres south of Aswan, the journey takes around three hours each way, so it replaces the leisurely morning on board. Both temples were moved to higher ground in the 1960s to escape Lake Nasser, a story your guide tells on site. If you want to know whether Abu Simbel is worth it, the scale of the facade at dawn answers that question.
Kom Ombo Temple
Kom Ombo stands on a bend of the Nile and is one of the few temples you reach directly from the river. Built under the Ptolemies from the second century BC, it is a double temple with two entrances, two sanctuaries and mirrored courts for Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder.
The walls carry reliefs of medical and surgical instruments, a calendar and offering scenes, and beside the temple a small museum shows mummified crocodiles found nearby. Your guide explains the double dedication. A visit takes about an hour, and the late afternoon light as the ship sails on is memorable. Ask for the crocodile museum on the way out.
Edfu and the Temple of Horus
The Temple of Horus at Edfu is the best-preserved major temple in Egypt. Built between 237 and 57 BC, it follows the classic plan of pylon, open court, hypostyle halls and sanctuary, and the pylon stands about thirty-six metres tall. Two granite falcons guard the entrance, and detailed reliefs tell the story of Horus defeating Seth.
Because the roof is largely intact, the inner rooms are dark and atmospheric, giving a rare sense of how a temple felt in use. Your guide explains the ritual route. Plan around ninety minutes for the visit; the day-three morning slot helps you avoid the busiest crowds from other ships.
Luxor's West Bank: Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's Temple
On the last morning you cross to Luxor's West Bank, the ancient necropolis of Thebes. The Valley of the Kings holds more than sixty tombs of New Kingdom pharaohs, carved into the hills between the sixteenth and eleventh centuries BC. Standard entry covers three tombs with painted corridors, burial chambers and star-covered ceilings, and photography inside is restricted.
Nearby, the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari rises in three colonnaded terraces against a limestone cliff, built around 1470 BC for the female pharaoh Hatshepsut. Your guide explains the Punt expedition reliefs. The West Bank visit takes about three hours; start early and carry water, as there is little shade.
Karnak and Luxor Temple on the East Bank
After lunch you visit the East Bank. Karnak is the largest temple complex in Egypt, built over about two thousand years for Amun-Ra, with its Great Hypostyle Hall of 134 columns, obelisks and a sacred lake. Allow around two hours to walk its courts and see the avenue of ram-headed sphinxes.
Luxor Temple, built mainly by Amenhotep III and Ramses II beside the river, is linked to Karnak by an ancient avenue of sphinxes. A mosque from the thirteenth century still stands inside it, which shows how the site has stayed in use. It is lit beautifully at dusk, and your tour ends in Luxor so you can return in the evening.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private tour?
The cruise is a shared sailing on a 5-star ship with other guests. Your Egyptologist guide and driver for the tours are private for your party, and you have your own cabin.
Can we change the itinerary or the pace?
The sailing schedule is fixed by the cruise programme, but with a private guide and driver you can spend more or less time at sites within the day. Tell your guide what interests you most.
How many people can join, and how many fit in the vehicle?
The ship carries a number of guests and cabins are booked by room. Your tours use a private vehicle sized for your party; send us your group size and we will confirm.
Is the price per person or per group?
Prices are per person. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each of the four options: standard or deluxe ship, with or without Abu Simbel.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes. Pickup and drop-off at your hotel in Aswan are included. The cruise ends in Luxor.
What is included?
Three nights on a 5-star ship, full board, lunch at a local restaurant in Luxor on day four, a private Egyptologist guide and driver for all tours, hotel pickup in Aswan and, in the Abu Simbel options, a day tour to Abu Simbel. Entrance fees, drinks, Wi-Fi, tips and transfers to the airport or station are extra.
How long is the tour?
Four days and three nights from Aswan to Luxor.
Is it suitable for children and reduced mobility?
Children are welcome. The temples involve steps, uneven ground and long walks in the sun, so wheelchair users and travellers with serious mobility difficulties may find the programme difficult.
What should we bring?
Passport, comfortable shoes, light modest clothing, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a light jacket for evenings, a camera and cash for tickets and tips.
What is the best season for a Nile cruise?
October to April is the most comfortable, with warm days and cool evenings. Summer is very hot, so the early starts matter more.
Is Abu Simbel included?
Only in the options named 'with guide and Abu Simbel'. The other two options skip the day trip and give you a slower morning on board.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose your option and date on this page and send your request. Our team confirms your booking on WhatsApp within minutes.
