Full Description
La Croisette, the most famous boulevard of Cannes
La Croisette runs for about 2 km along the Bay of Cannes, lined with palm trees, flower beds, sandy beaches and grand hotels from the Belle Époque and Art Deco eras. It is the stage of the city's glamour, especially in May, when the international film festival fills the promenade with photographers and visitors from around the world.
Driving slowly along it in an open-top sports car is the most iconic way to experience it: people turn to look, the sea breeze is in your hair and your driver-guide points out the landmarks and their stories. If you are looking for unique things to do in Cannes, a private ride on La Croisette is a short experience that becomes one of the highlights of a Riviera holiday.
The Festival Palace and the Old Port
At the western end of La Croisette stands the Festival Palace, opened in the early 1980s, with its famous red-carpet steps where the stars of the festival pose every spring. Just beside it, the Walk of Stars displays handprints set in the pavement, and the Old Port shelters fishing boats, ferries to the islands and large yachts.
Above the port rises Le Suquet, the old town of Cannes, with its medieval watchtower and church overlooking the bay. Depending on traffic and the time of day, your driver-guide includes the area around the palace and the port, giving you views of the old town and plenty of chances for photos with these landmarks in the background.
Pointe Croisette and the coastal roads
At the eastern end of La Croisette, the road curves around the Pointe Croisette, near the marina of Port Canto, where the city gives way to open sea views. From here you look across the water to the Lérins Islands, Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat, and, on clear days, to the red Esterel hills on the horizon.
The coastal roads around the point and the residential streets nearby, lined with villas and gardens, are among the most pleasant drives in Cannes, especially in the soft light of the late afternoon. Your driver-guide chooses the most beautiful route for the time of day and the traffic, and stops briefly at the best spots for photos.
The convertible experience and your photo pack
The car is a red Italian convertible with a folding hard top, seating the driver and up to two passengers. You ride as a passenger while your driver-guide takes the wheel, so you can relax, enjoy the views and the sound of the engine, and simply soak up the moment. Driving the car yourself is not part of this experience.
Along the way, your driver-guide takes photos of you in and around the car, with La Croisette and the sea in the background, and these are included in your photo pack. Is it worth it? For couples, special occasions and car lovers, it is a short but unforgettable experience; the best time is late afternoon or early evening, when the light is golden and the air is cooler.
