Full Description
The Transparent Factory: a factory made of glass
The Transparent Factory, in German the Gläserne Manufaktur, opened at the start of the 2000s and was designed so that visitors could see how cars are made through huge glass walls. Its clear architecture, light interiors and floor of Canadian maple made it a well-known landmark, and it stands on the edge of the Großer Garten park.
Because the building itself is an attraction, a visit here is as much about design and technology as about vehicles. For children it turns something usually hidden behind walls into a place they can watch, ask questions about and understand.
What the Kids Tour is like
The Kids Tour lasts 45 minutes and is led by a live guide who speaks German. It is designed for children and families, which means shorter explanations, questions that invite the children to take part and a pace that suits younger legs. Children are encouraged to be amazed, get involved and learn.
Parents can join the tour with their children, so the whole family enjoys it together. Because the tour is in German, it is best for German-speaking families or children learning German; it is not a tour in English or Arabic, and you should choose it with that in mind.
Tickets, times and how to get to the Transparent Factory
Tour times are shown in the booking panel and often include a late-morning and an early-afternoon slot. Children aged seven to seventeen have their own ticket category, and younger children are counted as infants. The booking panel shows the price for each category before you pay.
To get to the Transparent Factory, take a tram from central Dresden toward the Großer Garten; it is a short ride from the Old Town, and the visitor entrance is shown on your voucher. Arrive about ten minutes before the tour begins. Opening hours for other visits to the building change during the year.
Making a family day around the Großer Garten
The Großer Garten is Dresden's largest park, with a baroque palace, wide avenues, a small railway that children love and the city's zoo nearby. The best time to visit is a dry morning, when you can do the tour first and then let the children run in the park.
If your family speaks English or Arabic, ask us about our other Dresden activities, such as the Elbe boat cruise, which suits children well and is narrated in English and German. The Kids Tour works best as a short, specific activity in a longer family day.
