The ride climbs to the white marble monument on Nakkerd Hill and to Seaview Point, where the south of the island and Chalong Bay spread out below you. It is a shared tour led by professional quad and zipline guides, with helmet, safety gear, insurance, a soft drink and a cold towel. Pickup covers Patong, Kata, Karon, Chalong and Rawai, and other options offer shorter quad rides.

Full Description

Chalong Temple

Chalong Temple, officially Wat Chaiyathararam, is the largest and most visited Buddhist temple in Phuket. Its grounds hold ornate prayer halls with golden roofs, statues of revered monks honoured by local families, and a tall pagoda whose floors are decorated with murals telling Thai religious stories. From the upper level, the view takes in the whole temple complex and the green hills around it.

Throughout the day you will hear firecrackers set off by worshippers in a special brick oven, a way of giving thanks when a wish comes true. The visit lasts about 30 minutes and gives a calm, cultural start to the morning before the action begins. As this is an active place of worship, shoulders and knees must be covered and shoes removed in the halls, so bring a light scarf or sarong. Many guests say a Chalong Temple tour is the best introduction to Phuket's spiritual life.

The jungle zipline course

The zipline park lies in a patch of tropical forest on the slopes between Chalong and Kata. After a safety briefing, the guides fit your harness and helmet and clip you to the cables for 10 stations, moving from platform to platform high in the trees. Some lines are short and gentle, others longer and faster, with views down into the canopy and the valley.

The guides stay with the group the whole time, check every connection and help nervous first-timers, so no experience is needed. Expect to spend about 45 minutes to 1 hour on the course. It is a good way to see the rainforest from a new angle, with its giant ferns, vines and birds, and many guests find it the most exciting part of this Phuket zipline and ATV combination. Wear closed shoes and tie back long hair.

The jungle quad trail

The quad part of the tour lasts about an hour. After a short lesson on the controls, you follow your guide in a line along dirt tracks that climb through rubber plantations, banana groves and dense jungle. The trail has muddy patches, rocky climbs and short descents, enough to feel the adrenaline but manageable for beginners who ride at a steady pace.

Riders who are confident can drive their own quad, and the guide adapts the speed to the group. In the rainy season from May to October the trail is especially muddy, which many riders enjoy, so wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty; a raincoat is provided when it rains. This is why the ride is so popular among Phuket quad bike experiences: real jungle terrain, close to the beaches of the west coast, without a long transfer.

Nakkerd Hill and the marble monument

Nakkerd Hill rises between Chalong and Kata, and its summit is crowned by a huge seated statue covered in white Burmese marble, about 45 metres tall, visible from much of the south of the island. Built over many years with donations from visitors and local families, it has become Phuket's most famous landmark. Your quad ride stops near the summit, where you can walk around the terraces and enjoy the wide views.

From the top you look down over Chalong Bay with its anchored boats, the small islands offshore and, on the other side, the curve of Kata and Karon beaches. The site is a religious place, so modest clothing is expected on the upper terraces. It is one of the best viewpoints in Phuket, and arriving by quad through the jungle makes the moment even more rewarding.

Seaview Point over southern Phuket

Seaview Point is a natural lookout on the same range of hills, reached at the end of the quad trail. From here the view opens over the southern coast: the calm water of Chalong Bay, Rawai with its fishing boats, and on clear days the outline of Coral Island and the other islands scattered across the Andaman Sea.

The stop lasts a few minutes, enough for photos with your quad and a moment to catch your breath. After returning to the base you receive a soft drink and a cold towel before the drive back to your hotel. The best time of day for the tour is the morning departure at 08:30, when the air is cooler and the light is clear; the 12:00 departure is warmer but often less busy. Other options on this page offer a private ride from 30 minutes to 2 hours, some with the Big Swing in the jungle.
