Scuba diving in Side and the Mediterranean

Side sits on the Gulf of Antalya, where the sea is warm for much of the year and visibility is often good. The seabed along this coast offers rocky reefs, sandy patches and areas where fish gather, which makes it a comfortable place for a first dive. The captain chooses the two dive sites on the day, depending on the weather, the sea and the experience of the group.

If you are looking for scuba diving in Side or a diving trip from Side for beginners, this boat day is designed for you. The season for comfortable diving runs from late spring to autumn, and the water is warmest from midsummer to early autumn. Conditions such as underwater visibility can change from day to day, so the crew adapts the plan.

The briefing and your first dive

Before anyone enters the water, a professional instructor explains the safety rules, the equipment and the hand signals used to communicate underwater. You learn how to breathe through the regulator, how to clear your mask and how to equalise your ears, and you practise the basics until you feel confident. The instructor stays close to you during the dive.

A discover scuba diving experience does not require a certificate, but it does require confidence in the water. Participants must be over 12 years old, and a medical statement may be requested for guests with certain health conditions. Anyone prone to seasickness, with back problems or who is pregnant should not take part.

Reefs, fish and the underwater museum

On the dives you can expect rocky reefs, schools of Mediterranean fish and, depending on the site, wrecks and artificial structures. The coast also has an artificially created underwater museum, and the dive to it is available with the expert option for certified divers, depending on the conditions on the day.

Please keep your hands to yourself underwater: touching marine life and plants is not allowed, which protects both the animals and you. Bring a camera if you have an underwater case, since a good number of divers enjoy photographing fish and the shapes of the seabed in clear water.

A day on the boat: sun deck, snorkelling and lunch

Between the dives the boat is your base. It has a sun deck for sunbathing, a place to swim, and complimentary equipment for snorkelling, so guests who prefer to stay near the surface can explore the shallows. A light lunch is served on board, usually in the break between the dives.

This makes the trip a good day out for mixed groups: divers take to the water with the instructor, while others relax, swim and snorkel. Bring a towel, a hat, sun cream and water, and wear comfortable clothes to put on after the dive. The boat day ends in the afternoon, when we transfer you from the port back to your hotel in the options with transfer.

In the options with transfer we pick you up from your hotel in the Side area, normally at around 08:30, and confirm the exact time after booking. In the option without transfer, you meet the team at the meeting point, normally at around 09:30, which is confirmed after booking, and you arrange your own transport.
