Full Description
SeaWorld Orlando roller coasters and rides
SeaWorld Orlando opened in 1973 on the southwest side of the city and has grown into one of the most complete coaster parks in Florida. The headline ride is Mako, a hypercoaster that climbs about 61 metres and reaches roughly 117 km/h, with long airtime hills inspired by the fastest shark in the ocean. Manta places you face-down in a flying position, skimming low over the water like a giant ray, while Kraken is a floorless coaster with seven inversions.
Pipeline is a stand-up surf coaster that recreates the feeling of riding a wave, and Ice Breaker launches forwards and backwards before a near-vertical spike. Younger riders love Penguin Trek, a gentle launch coaster that ends in a real penguin habitat. Journey to Atlantis and the Infinity Falls rapids will soak you on hot days. Plan your coasters early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when queues are shortest.
Marine life habitats and animal presentations
Beyond the thrills, SeaWorld Orlando is built around large habitats. At Dolphin Cove you watch bottlenose dolphins swim and play beside underwater viewing windows, and at Stingray Lagoon you can see rays glide past at arm's length. The Shark Encounter walkway takes you through an acrylic tunnel with sharks, eels and reef fish overhead, and the Antarctica area recreates an icy world for several penguin species.
Daily presentations bring the animals' behaviour to life: the Orca Encounter explains how these powerful animals hunt and communicate, and the sea lion show adds humour for children. The park also runs one of the best-known marine animal rescue programmes in North America, and you can see manatees and sea turtles in rehabilitation habitats. Check the show schedule in the park app as soon as you enter and build your day around two or three presentations.
Planning your visit: opening hours, tickets and tips
SeaWorld Orlando opening hours change with the season: the park usually opens at 10:00 and closes between 18:00 and 21:00, later in summer and during holiday celebrations. Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before opening, scan your mobile ticket at the main gate and head to the far side of the park first. The whole park is cashless, so bring a bank card or mobile payment for food, lockers and souvenirs.
Is SeaWorld Orlando worth visiting? For families who want both coasters and animals in one day, it is one of the best-value parks in Orlando, and it is usually less crowded than the city's movie-themed parks. Allow a full day to see the main rides and two or three shows. The best time to visit SeaWorld Orlando is from late October to early May, when temperatures are milder and summer thunderstorms are rare.
How to get to SeaWorld Orlando and nearby parks
The park sits at 7007 Sea World Drive, just off International Drive and close to the I-4 motorway, about 15 minutes by car from most hotels on International Drive and around 20 minutes from Orlando International Airport. Paid parking is available at the main lot, and taxis and ride-hailing cars drop off right at the entrance plaza. Several hotels in the area run their own shuttles, so ask at reception.
Directly across the road is Aquatica Orlando, a water park with high-speed slides, wave pools and a lazy river, while Discovery Cove, the all-inclusive snorkelling and dolphin resort, is next door. That is why the multi-park options on this page are popular: with two or three visits within 14 days, you can mix SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica and the sister zoo-and-coaster park in Tampa at your own rhythm.
