Flying from Hurghada to Cairo
By road, Cairo is roughly five to six hours from Hurghada; by air, the hop takes about an hour. Your day starts with a very early pickup from your hotel and a transfer to Hurghada International Airport for a domestic flight. On arrival at Cairo International Airport our representative meets you outside the arrivals hall with a sign bearing the tour name.
A Cairo day trip by plane from Hurghada is the smartest way to fit Egypt's capital into a beach holiday, as you spend your energy on sights rather than on the road. Flight times depend on the airline schedule and can shift, so the visiting order is adapted on the day to traffic and daylight.
The Grand Egyptian Museum
Next to the Giza plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum is a vast building with a translucent stone facade, designed to frame views of the pyramids. It opened fully in 2025 and displays around 100,000 artefacts, making it the largest archaeological museum in the world devoted to one civilisation.
Your Egyptologist leads you up the Grand Staircase, lined with royal statues, to the Tutankhamun galleries, where the young king's golden mask, thrones and chariots are shown together for the first time. Is the Grand Egyptian Museum worth including on a day trip? Absolutely; allow at least two hours. Another option visits the old Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, and one skips the museum entirely.
The Pyramids of Giza from Panorama Point
After lunch at a restaurant near the pyramids, the tour begins at Panorama Point, the desert viewpoint where the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure line up with the smaller queens' pyramids. It is the best place for a group photo and to understand how the plateau was laid out.
You then drive to the base of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Your guide explains its construction around 2560 BC and the royal family buried around it. Entering the burial chambers of Khufu or Khafre is not included; a Pyramids of Giza day trip from Hurghada focuses on the outside, which is the most rewarding part.
The Great Sphinx and Extra Time in Cairo
The Great Sphinx, carved from the living rock of the plateau, guards the Valley Temple of Khafre. Standing before its weathered lion body and royal head is a highlight for most visitors, and our guide shows you the best angle to capture it with a pyramid behind.
If your return flight is late in the evening and time allows, the guide may add a short visit to the Khan El-Khalili bazaar or Old Cairo, or a stop at a large air-conditioned shopping mall. A Nile boat ride is also possible at extra cost. You then transfer to Cairo airport, fly back to Hurghada and are driven to your hotel.
