Full Description

Dolphin watching in the open Red Sea

The Red Sea off Hurghada is home to spinner dolphins, which live in the wild and travel in pods that rest in sheltered waters and feed offshore. The captain and crew know where pods have been seen and take the speedboat out to look for them, which is why the trip leaves early in the day when the sea is calm. It is a real wildlife outing, so sightings are likely but not guaranteed, and the trip does not depend on a single stop.

When dolphins appear, the boat approaches slowly and keeps a respectful distance, never chasing or surrounding the animals. You watch from the deck, and good days bring leaps, spins and pods riding the bow wave. The morning departure usually gives the calmest sea and the best light for photographs. If you ask when is the best time to see dolphins from Hurghada, the answer is early morning.

Reef snorkelling stops

After the dolphins, the speedboat moves to two or three reef stops chosen by the captain according to the wind and sea of the day. Snorkelling equipment and life jackets are provided, and the guide leads the group in the water, which makes the trip comfortable for beginners and for guests who are not strong swimmers.

Expect hard and soft corals, shoals of small colourful fish, parrotfish and butterflyfish in clear shallow water. Please do not touch or stand on the coral, because the reef is protected. If you prefer not to swim, you can stay on the boat, relax in the shade and enjoy the sea view. The nature reserve fee is payable separately on the day and is not included in the booking price.

Orange Bay and Abu Monqar islands

The private speedboat options add two island stops: Orange Bay, a beach on the Giftun Islands known for its pale sand and turquoise shallows, and Abu Monqar, a small island with a white sand beach and a sheltered bay. With your own boat, you decide how long to swim, snorkel and sunbathe at each place, and you can choose a start time between eight and one o'clock.

On the shared trip, the programme follows the captain's plan for the day and focuses on dolphins and reefs. If you want a longer island day with beach time, ask us about the private options when you book. The private trip takes four to six hours, depending on how long you stay at each stop, and lunch is not included, so bring a snack or ask us for suggestions.

The speedboat, pickup and best season

The speedboat is fast and light, so the ride to the dolphin grounds is quick and the sea feels close. The shaded area gives a break from the sun, and the stereo system adds a cheerful atmosphere during the cruise. Hotel pickup in Hurghada is included, and separate options cover Makadi Bay, El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh and Safaga with a longer transfer.

The trip runs all year. The calmest sea and the best dolphin chances are usually from spring to autumn mornings, while in winter the water is cooler and a light jacket is useful on the way. Choose the 08:30 departure for the best dolphin chance and the 13:00 departure if you prefer a slower morning, and tell our team if you want advice on which time suits your hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.

Is this a shared or a private tour?

The default option and the pickup options are shared group speedboat trips. Two further options are private speedboats for your own party. The booking panel shows which is which.

Can we change the itinerary or the pace?

On the shared trip the captain follows a set programme and chooses the best stops for the sea of the day. On the private speedboat you decide the pace, how long to stay at each stop and when to start.

How many people can join?

The shared speedboat takes a group of guests from several hotels. For the private speedboat the boat is only for your party; tell us your group size on WhatsApp.

Is the price per person or per group?

Prices are counted per person. The booking panel shows the current price of each option and updates with the date and number of guests.

Is hotel pickup included?

Yes, hotel pickup and drop-off is included. The default option covers Hurghada, and separate options cover Makadi Bay, El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh and Safaga.

What is included?

Hotel transfers, the speedboat with a captain, dolphin watching, two or three guided snorkelling stops, snorkelling equipment, life jackets, mineral water, soft drinks, fresh fruit and a shaded area. The nature reserve fee, lunch and tips are not included.

How long is the trip?

About four hours on the water in the shared trip. The private speedboat takes four to six hours.

Is it suitable for children and reduced mobility?

Children who can wear a life jacket are welcome with an adult. The boat is small and the sea can be bumpy, so it is not ideal for guests with serious back problems or limited mobility.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, sun cream, a hat, sunglasses, a light jacket in winter and some cash for the reserve fee.

What is the best time of day or season?

The 08:30 departure usually has the calmest sea and the best dolphin chances. Spring to autumn is the most comfortable period; winter needs a light jacket.

Will we definitely see dolphins?

No. The dolphins are wild, and we do not feed or chase them. The captain searches the areas where pods are usually seen, and most trips find them, but the snorkelling stops make the trip worthwhile in any case.

How do I book and confirm?

Choose your dolphin watching option, date and number of guests in the booking panel on this page and send the request. Our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes and sends the final pickup or meeting details.
