Overview

This Dolomites zipline in San Vigilio di Marebbe is one of the longest in Europe and one of the most exciting things to do in South Tyrol. After check-in, instructors fit your harness and helmet, then a shuttle or cable car, depending on the season, takes you up to the launch site at about 1,600 metres. From there you fly solo along roughly 3 km of cable in several stages, reaching up to 80 km/h above forests and meadows, with the pale peaks of the Dolomites all around. Full Description

The San Vigilio di Marebbe zipline

The zipline starts at about 1,600 metres on the slopes above San Vigilio di Marebbe and runs for roughly 3 km down the valley, descending some 400 metres in several sections linked by wooden platforms. At the highest point the ground drops about 100 metres below you, and on the steepest stretches you can reach 80 km/h while forests, farms and limestone peaks rush past.

Every flight is solo, so you feel the full rush of speed, yet you are never alone: instructors wait at each platform to clip you onto the next line. Total time is about 35 minutes to two hours, depending on group size and the season. Is the zipline worth it? For anyone who loves adventure, it is the most memorable way to see the Dolomites from above without climbing a peak.

San Vigilio di Marebbe and the Ladin valleys

San Vigilio di Marebbe is a peaceful mountain village in a side valley of the Val Badia, in South Tyrol. Like the neighbouring valleys, it belongs to the Ladin community, whose language, one of the oldest in the Alps, is spoken here alongside German and Italian, so road signs often appear in three languages. Wooden farmhouses, onion-domed churches and green meadows set the scene.

In winter the village is part of the large Kronplatz ski area, and in summer it is a base for hiking, mountain biking and family outings. After your flight you can stroll the village centre, have lunch in a mountain restaurant or relax on a sunny terrace. Halal food is limited in this area, but vegetarian dishes and fish are easy to find.

Kronplatz and the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park

Above the village rises Kronplatz, known in Italian as Plan de Corones, a rounded summit at about 2,275 metres with lifts from several valleys and a museum of mountain photography at the top. Clear days bring a panorama over the Dolomites, the Zillertal Alps and the Austrian border ranges.

To the south-east, San Vigilio is the gateway to the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, a protected world of high plateaus, larch forests and limestone peaks tied to old Ladin legends. Lake Braies, the famous emerald lake, lies on the other side of the park, about 40 minutes away by road, so many visitors combine both on a Dolomites day. We can arrange private transfers to link the zipline with other sights.

How to get to San Vigilio di Marebbe

How to get to San Vigilio di Marebbe? The nearest town is Brunico in the Puster Valley, about 20 minutes away by road, with trains on the Puster Valley railway and buses up to the village. Bolzano is about an hour and a half by road, and Venice about three hours, so the zipline fits best into a stay in the Dolomites rather than a single day from a distant city.

Please plan to arrive at the check-in office 30 minutes before your time slot. Schedules depend on the season and on how lifts operate, and the operator may move you to a nearby slot if needed, so keep some flexibility. If you do not have a car, our team can arrange a private transfer from your hotel in the Dolomites, Bolzano or Brunico.
