Full Description
Flamenco, the art of southern Spain
Flamenco was born in Andalusia from a meeting of cultures: Romani families, Andalusian folk music and echoes of the Moorish and Sephardic past all shaped its sound. It brings together three arts, the cante or song, the toque or guitar and the baile or dance, held together by rhythmic handclaps called palmas and shouts of encouragement. In 2010 it was recognised by UNESCO as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
A traditional show moves through different styles, called palos. You may hear the deep, serious soleá, the joyful alegrías from the coast of Cádiz and the fast, playful bulerías that often close a performance. Nothing is read from a script: the dancer and musicians watch each other closely and build the energy together, which is why every evening of this Alicante flamenco show feels different.
A historic palace stage in central Alicante
The show takes place in the hall of a historic palace building in the centre of Alicante, a few minutes from the Explanada and the old town. The room is small by design: rows of seats face a wooden stage so that the stamping of the heels, the swirl of the dress and the voice of the singer reach you without distance. This closeness is the essence of a true flamenco tablao.
Arrive about 20 minutes before your time to find your seat and enjoy the tapas without rushing. The performance itself lasts about an hour and a half, and photos are usually allowed only at the end. If you are looking for flamenco tickets in Alicante that feel authentic rather than touristic, an intimate hall like this is the best choice.
The Spanish tapas platter
With the default option, a tapas platter is served before the performance. It brings together classic Spanish flavours: thinly sliced cured meats, a board of cheeses with smoked, aged and semi-cured varieties, crispy regañás breadsticks from Andalusia, fried almonds and the gilda, a traditional skewer of olive and pickled pepper that is one of Spain's favourite appetisers.
The platter is ideal for sharing between two people as a light supper, or as a starter before a later dinner in the old town. Drinks are not included and can be ordered at the venue. If you have dietary needs, tell us when you book and we will pass the request to the venue. Travellers who prefer only the show can choose the show-only ticket in the booking panel.
Alicante old town by night
After the show, the evening continues in the streets around the venue. Alicante's old quarter, El Barrio, is a maze of narrow lanes with colourful houses and flower pots that climb towards the Santa Cruz neighbourhood at the foot of the castle hill. The cathedral and the town hall square are lit up at night, and the restaurants around them stay open late, in true Spanish style.
A short stroll leads to the Explanada de España, where the wave-patterned promenade, the palm trees and the illuminated marina make a fine end to the night. The castle on Mount Benacantil glows above the city. Is the Alicante flamenco show worth it? For an evening that combines music, Spanish flavours and the charm of the old town, it is one of the best things to do in Alicante at night.
