Overview

This half-day small-group tour shows Barcelona from the street, the sea and the sky. With an English-speaking guide you walk past Casa Milà, Casa Batlló, the Gothic Quarter and Barcelona Cathedral, cross the harbour by boat from Port Vell to the heliport, and finish with a helicopter flight along the coast. The flight lasts six or eleven minutes depending on the option you choose. It suits couples, friends and families with older children who want one memorable morning instead of a list of queues.

Highlights

  • Helicopter flight over Barcelona's coastline, with a six-minute or an eleven-minute option
  • Guided walk past Casa Milà (La Pedrera) and Casa Batlló on Passeig de Gràcia
  • Gothic Quarter lanes, Plaça Reial and Barcelona Cathedral with a live English guide
  • Short boat ride across the harbour from Port Vell to the heliport
  • Small group with limited helicopter seats, so nobody is rushed
  • On the eleven-minute flight: the Sagrada Família, Montjuïc and Camp Nou from above

Full Description

Passeig de Gràcia, Casa Milà and Casa Batlló

The walk begins in the Eixample district, close to Passeig de Gràcia, the city's most elegant boulevard and the heart of Barcelona's Modernista architecture. Your guide stops at Casa Batlló, which Antoni Gaudí remodelled between 1904 and 1906, and at Casa Milà, better known as La Pedrera, finished in 1910 with its wave-like stone façade and chimney sculptures.

Many visitors ask whether the Gaudí houses are worth visiting from the inside. On this tour you see them from the street with the stories behind them, which helps you decide which interior to book on another day. Going inside is not part of this experience. Allow around forty minutes for this first stretch of the Gaudí walking tour.

The Gothic Quarter, Plaça Reial and Barcelona Cathedral

From the Eixample the route moves into the Gothic Quarter, the oldest part of the city, where medieval lanes open onto hidden squares. The guide points out the Roman foundations under the streets, the cathedral with its Gothic cloister and its later neo-Gothic façade, and the arcaded Plaça Reial with its palm trees and lamp posts from the nineteenth century.

This is the part of the tour that answers the classic question of what to see in the Gothic Quarter in a short time. Visiting hours for the cathedral itself change by day and season, so if you want to go inside afterwards, check the current timetable on the day.

Port Vell and the boat ride to the heliport

After the old town you continue to the harbour and board a boat at Moll de les Drassanes, next to the medieval shipyards. Port Vell was reopened to the public for the 1992 Olympic Games, and from the water you see the Columbus monument, the waterfront promenade and the Barceloneta skyline.

The crossing to the heliport takes around ten to fifteen minutes. It works as a relaxed pause between the walk and the flight, and it gives you a first look at the coast you are about to see from above. Sea conditions are usually calm inside the port.

The helicopter flight over Barcelona

This is the moment most people book for. The six-minute Barcelona helicopter tour follows the coastline over Port Vell, Barceloneta and the Olympic Port. The eleven-minute flight adds the city itself: the Glòries Tower, the Sagrada Família, Avinguda Diagonal, Camp Nou, Plaça d'Espanya and Montjuïc with the Olympic Park.

A helicopter ride in Barcelona is worth it if you like to understand a city's layout. The grid of the Eixample and the position of the mountains behind the sea are much clearer from the air. The helicopter carries three passengers, seats are assigned for weight balance, and flights depend on weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.

How much does the Barcelona helicopter tour cost?

The price depends on the option you choose, six-minute or eleven-minute flight. The booking panel on this page shows the current price for each option, for adults and where children are allowed.

Is hotel pickup included?

No. The tour starts at a meeting point in the Eixample district near Passeig de Gràcia, which is easy to reach by metro or taxi from most central hotels.

How long is the tour?

About four hours in total, including the guided walk, the boat ride, the check-in at the heliport and the flight itself.

What is the difference between the options?

Both include the guided walk and the boat transfer. The difference is the flight: six minutes along the coastline, or eleven minutes that also cover the city, including the Sagrada Família and Camp Nou.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Children aged 2 and over can join. Older children who enjoy walking and are not nervous about flying usually love it. Please check the weight and seat rules in the important information.

What should I wear and bring?

Comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothes, sunglasses and your passport or ID. A small bag is best because space in the helicopter is limited.

Can I book for today or tomorrow?

Often yes, subject to helicopter and guide availability. The booking panel only offers the dates that are currently open, so you can see straight away whether a same-day or next-day flight is possible.

Do we go inside the Casa Batlló and La Pedrera?

No. You see both from the outside with your guide's explanations. Interior visits are separate and can be arranged on another day.

Is there a weight limit for the helicopter?

Yes. For safety the helicopter has a maximum load per passenger and per flight, and seats are allocated by weight. Please contact us before booking if you are close to the limit.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Helicopter flights depend on wind and visibility. If the flight cannot operate on your date, we will contact you to arrange the next steps.
