Full Description

S'Arenal and Playa de Palma

Your Palma parasailing experience starts in S'Arenal, the lively seaside district at the eastern end of Playa de Palma, about 15 kilometres from the city centre. Playa de Palma is one of the longest beaches in Mallorca, with almost five kilometres of fine white sand, calm shallow water and a seafront promenade lined with hotels, cafés and beach kiosks.

The meeting point is on Avinguda Miramar, a short walk from the small harbour of S'Arenal where the speedboat is moored. If you are wondering how to get to S'Arenal, city buses run along the whole seafront from Palma and Can Pastilla, and taxis from the airport take about 15 minutes. Arrive a little early to check in, leave your belongings safely and listen to the crew's instructions.

The speedboat ride into the Bay of Palma

Once everyone is on board, the speedboat heads out into the open water of the Bay of Palma, a wide sweep of sea about 20 kilometres across, protected by headlands on both sides. The ride itself is part of the fun: the boat skims over the waves, the spray cools you down and the coastline opens up behind you.

The crew explains how the parasail works and how you will be clipped into the harness. Flights take place one person or two people at a time, so while you wait for your turn you can enjoy watching the others rise into the sky and take photos of them. The boat stays well away from swimmers and beaches, in the safe parasailing zone of the bay.

The flight: 50 metres above the sea

When it is your turn, you sit on the platform at the back of the boat, the parachute fills with wind and you rise smoothly into the air without getting wet. In a few seconds you are floating up to 50 metres above the sea, in near silence, with only the sound of the wind. The flight lasts about ten minutes and feels calm and surprisingly gentle.

From up there, the view is unforgettable: the long white line of Playa de Palma, the cliffs towards Cap Blanc, the cathedral and the city of Palma in the distance, and on clear days the Serra de Tramuntana mountains on the horizon. At the end, the crew slowly winds you back down onto the deck. Parasailing in the Bay of Palma is one of the best water sports in Mallorca for first-timers.

Planning your parasailing day

Departures run every hour from 11:00 to 17:00, so you can fit the flight into a beach day or choose a late afternoon slot for softer, golden light. The season runs mainly from spring to autumn, and the best time to visit Mallorca for water sports is from May to October, when the sea is warm and the wind is usually light.

Parasailing always depends on the weather: the crew needs a steady breeze but not strong wind or waves, and they decide on the day whether flights are safe. After the trip, S'Arenal and Playa de Palma offer plenty of things to do, from swimming and beach walks to cafés along the promenade. Photos and videos of your flight are not included, but you can usually buy them from the crew.
