Full Description
Koh Tao, the Turtle Island
Koh Tao is a small island in the Gulf of Thailand, whose name means Turtle Island. It is famous worldwide for scuba diving and snorkeling, thanks to warm, clear water, shallow coral gardens and a lot of tropical fish close to shore. A snorkeling day trip from Koh Samui to Koh Tao is the easiest way to see it without changing hotels.
Your guide chooses the swimming spots according to sea conditions, so the exact bays can change from day to day. The calmest and clearest water is usually in the drier months early in the year, and rougher seas in the wetter months can change the plan. Bring a rash vest or a long-sleeved top if you burn easily.
Koh Nangyuan, three islets joined by a sandbar
Koh Nangyuan lies just off the northwest coast of Koh Tao and is made of three small islets tied together by a narrow strip of white sand. It is one of the most photographed views in the Gulf of Thailand. A short hike leads to a viewpoint above the sandbar, where you get the picture everyone comes for, and the water around the rocks is a popular place to snorkel.
The Ko Nang Yuan entry fee is not part of the tour price. It is paid in cash directly to staff on the day, so keep some cash with you. Is Koh Nangyuan worth visiting? Yes, especially early in the day, when there are fewer people, and it fits well into a full day of snorkeling.
Snorkeling, breakfast and lunch on the trip
Everything you need for the water is supplied: mask and snorkel, a life jacket, a refreshing towel and a first aid kit on board. Guides look after beginners and children, and the life jacket lets you float comfortably while you watch the reefs. Tell the crew if you cannot swim, so they can keep an eye on you.
Food is included too: a light breakfast, then a Thai-style buffet lunch, plus drinking water, a soft drink and seasonal fruit. Basic accident insurance is part of the tour, which makes this Koh Tao snorkeling tour simple to book as a full day out with no extra planning.
