Full Description
Torre Glories, Barcelona's bullet-shaped tower
Torre Glories rises above the Glories district in the up-and-coming Poblenou area, and its rounded, glowing form has become one of the symbols of modern Barcelona. Designed by Jean Nouvel and opened in 2005, it is about 144 metres tall, and its facade of glass louvres changes colour through the day.
Mirador Torre Glories tickets give access to the observation deck near the top of the tower, so you can see the city from a very different angle than from Montjuic or Tibidabo. Visiting the tower feels modern and quiet compared with the older sights.
The 360-degree observation deck
From the deck you see the whole of Barcelona, the grid of the Eixample, the coastline and the mountains behind the city. The Sagrada Familia stands out clearly from here, making the Mirador one of the best places to photograph the basilica in context.
An audio guide is available in several languages, including English, helping you identify landmarks. Late afternoon is a favourite time, as the light softens and the city begins to glow. You can walk right around the deck to see every side of the city, from the sea to the mountains behind it, so plan enough time to take it all in.
Cloud Cities Barcelona by Tomas Saraceno
With the default option you also enter Cloud Cities Barcelona, an artwork by Tomas Saraceno suspended about 130 metres above the city. Visitors walk through a structure of tensioned cables and transparent surfaces, which gives a floating feeling above the streets.
This experience is for visitors aged 8 and over, and children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. If you prefer only the deck, choose the ticket-only option in the booking panel. The installation changes with the light, so it feels different on a bright afternoon than on a cloudy morning, and it is worth allowing time to walk through slowly.
How to get to Torre Glories and plan your visit
The tower stands on Placa de les Glories, next to the Glories metro station on line 1 and close to the Encants market and the Design Museum. It is a short ride from the city centre. Choose your date in the booking panel and arrive on time.
Allow about an hour and a half if you include Cloud Cities. Opening hours change by season, and clear weather makes a big difference to visibility, so try to choose a bright day. Booking a time in advance is sensible in busy seasons, since the deck and the installation have limited capacity.
