Full Description
Isla Magica, the theme park of Seville
Isla Magica opened in 1997 on land used for the 1992 World Expo, and it remains the main theme park in Seville and western Andalusia. Its story looks back to the 16th century, when Seville held the monopoly on trade with the Americas and galleons left the river loaded for the New World. The park turns that history into a playful journey across themed lands with tropical plants, colourful forts and a large central lake.
Each area has its own look and rides: an old Seville harbour, a pirates' den, a misty jungle, a hidden golden city, a fountain of youth for small children and an Andalusian corner with balconies and patios. Walking between them is part of the fun, and the lake views give the park a relaxed feel even on busy days. Is Isla Magica worth visiting? For families spending several days in the city, it is the best change of pace from monuments.
Roller coasters and water rides
Thrill seekers head first to the Jaguar, an inverted roller coaster with loops that swings riders through the treetops, and to the coasters that race along the edge of the lake. Water rides are the stars on hot days: a steep chute that ends in a big splash and river rapids in round boats where everyone gets wet. A drop tower adds a moment of pure adrenaline for older children and adults.
Younger visitors have plenty of gentler choices, from small coasters and spinning rides to boats and play areas sized for little ones. Each attraction shows its height rule at the entrance, so check before you queue. Arrive close to opening time and ride the most popular attractions first, when waiting times are shortest, then use the afternoon for shows and smaller rides.
Live shows and a day at the park
Your Isla Magica tickets include the live shows that run through the day, with acrobatics, pirate battles, music and characters on stages around the park. The show times are posted at the entrance and in the park app, and planning two or three of them is a good way to rest between rides. In the evening the park lights up, and summer days often end later.
Food and drinks are not included, but the park has restaurants, snack kiosks and shaded areas where you can sit and eat. Bring sun protection and water bottles in summer, when Seville can be very hot; many families arrive at opening, take a long break in the shade and stay until the evening. Lockers are useful for bags and spare clothes after the water rides.
Isla de la Cartuja and how to get to Isla Magica
Isla de la Cartuja is the river island west of the old town and the site of the 1992 Expo, with a 15th-century monastery that now houses a contemporary art centre, and modern pavilions and gardens. The theme park sits on its northern side, beside the lake that was created for the Expo, with the Guadalquivir between it and the historic centre.
Wondering how to get to Isla Magica? From the Macarena and Alameda area you can walk across the Barqueta bridge in about 20 to 25 minutes, or take the city buses that circle Isla de la Cartuja. A taxi from the cathedral area takes around 10 minutes, and there is parking for drivers. The park is open on selected days from spring to early November, so check the calendar in the booking panel; the best time to visit is spring, early summer or autumn.
