Full Description

Altea, the white village of the Costa Blanca

Altea is a hillside old town of whitewashed houses, cobbled lanes and flower-filled balconies, crowned by a church with blue and white tiled domes that you can see from far along the coast. Streets climb between craft shops, small galleries and viewpoints looking over the Mediterranean, and the quietest hour to wander is usually earlier in the day.

On this Altea day trip from Valencia you get a short introduction from the tour coordinator followed by free time, roughly an hour, to explore at your own pace, take photographs, browse souvenirs or walk down towards the seafront. It is the easiest way to see Altea old town if you do not have a car.

Guadalest village and castle

Guadalest is one of the most dramatic villages in Spain, set on a rocky crag above a turquoise reservoir with the Aitana mountains behind it. The entrance is through a tunnel cut into the rock, and the old walled quarter still keeps the ruins of the Castillo de San José, a bell tower built into the cliff and viewpoints over the valley.

Our Guadalest excursion from Valencia starts with a guided walk of about 30 minutes to explain the history of the castle and the town, then leaves around an hour and a half of free time. You can explore the lanes, take photographs or visit one of the small museums, whose tickets are not included.

Fuentes del Algar waterfalls

The Fuentes del Algar are a series of cascades and natural pools fed by the Algar river near Callosa d'en Sarrià, in a protected green corner of the Marina Baixa. The water is cool and clear even in midsummer, and the site is popular with families for a refreshing dip after a warm day of sightseeing.

This is the last stop of the Algar waterfalls tour from Valencia, with about an hour and twenty-five minutes of free time. Entry is included in your ticket. Bring swimwear, a towel and water shoes, since the rocks can be slippery. Food and glass containers are not allowed at the site, so keep your picnic for the villages.
