Full Description

Gulong Gorge, the adventure canyon of Qingyuan

Gulong Gorge lies in Qingxin district of Qingyuan, a green, mountainous city in northern Guangdong. The canyon is carved into forested hills by clear mountain streams, with pools and waterfalls along its length, and over the years it has become one of South China's best-known adventure parks, combining natural scenery with glass structures and high-energy rides.

How to get to Gulong Gorge: the scenic area is about two hours by car from central Guangzhou. Transport is not included with this ticket, so most visitors drive or hire a car with driver; public transport is possible but slow and complicated without Chinese. A Gulong Gorge day trip from Guangzhou is very doable, but start early to make the most of the activities and the fast-track entry.

The Sky Glass Bridge

The Sky Glass Bridge stretches across the canyon high above the river, with transparent panels under your feet that reveal the drop to the valley floor. Walking across is a test of nerves for many, and the views up and down the forested gorge, with waterfalls pouring from the slopes, are the most photographed in the park.

The bridge is included in every option on this page and is the gentlest of the four activities, suitable for most ages; it is the ideal choice for grandparents and small children, who can enjoy the scenery while the rest of the family tries the faster rides. Allow about an hour for the bridge and the viewpoints around it. Like everything at Gulong Gorge, it may close temporarily in storms or strong wind.

The Cliff Roller Coaster

The Cliff Roller Coaster runs along the very edge of the canyon, with sharp bends, quick drops and moments where the track seems to hang over the void. Riders sit in small cars and feel every turn, while the gorge drops away on one side, which makes it far more thrilling than a coaster in a city theme park.

With the default package you have fast-track entry for the coaster, which shortens the queue at busy times, though it does not remove waiting completely. Riders must be at least 1 metre tall and under 60 years old, and children under 1.35 metres or under 8 years must ride with a parent or guardian. Allow 30 to 60 minutes depending on the crowds.

Canyon Kart racing

Canyon Kart racing lets you drive purpose-built karts along winding tracks with canyon views, a fast and fun experience for teenagers and adults who enjoy a little friendly competition. Staff give a short safety briefing before you set off, and helmets are provided on site. Each race is short and full of bends, so stay focused on the track and enjoy it.

Drivers must be at least 1.4 metres tall and 12 years old, and under 60. The default package includes fast-track entry for the karts, so you spend more time driving and less time waiting. Is Gulong Gorge worth visiting for families with teenagers? Absolutely: few places near Guangzhou combine this many adventure activities with real mountain scenery in a single ticket.

Canyon Rafting through the gorge

Canyon Rafting is the park's most famous experience: inflatable rafts carry you down a long, steep route through the gorge, with fast chutes, sudden drops and calmer pools in between. You will get completely soaked, which is part of the fun on a hot summer day. The default package includes fast-track entry for rafting, the activity with the longest queues.

Rafting runs from May to October only and depends on weather and water levels. Rafters must be at least 1.2 metres tall; men must be under 60 and women under 55, and it is not allowed for people with heart disease or high blood pressure. The best time to visit Gulong Gorge for rafting is on a weekday in June, July or September, avoiding national holidays.

Planning your day at the park

Most visitors spend about five hours at Gulong Gorge with this package. Start with rafting when it opens if you want to avoid the longest lines, then dry off before the coaster, the karts and the glass bridge. Bring a change of clothes, quick-drying shoes or sandals with straps, and a waterproof bag for your phone; lockers and changing rooms are available on site.

None of the activities are suitable for pregnant women, and staff strictly check age, height and health requirements before each ride. Food is not included, but snack stalls and simple restaurants are found in the scenic area. Halal restaurants are rare in the countryside, so guests who eat halal may prefer to bring their own food for the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.

Is this a shared or a private tour?

It is an entry ticket, not a tour. You enjoy the activities on your own alongside other visitors, with no guide or transport.

Is the ticket dated? Do I need my passport?

Yes. The ticket is for the date you book, and attractions in China issue tickets with ID details, so bring each visitor's passport to the entrance.

What is included in the default package?

Entry to Gulong Gorge, the Sky Glass Bridge, the Cliff Roller Coaster with fast-track entry, Canyon Kart racing with fast-track entry and Canyon Rafting with fast-track entry. A guide, transport, food and drinks are not included.

What are the other options?

You can also choose the glass bridge only, three activities without rafting, or all four activities with fast-track for rafting only. The booking panel shows the current price of each option.

Is the price per person or per group?

Prices are per person, and every visitor needs a ticket for the activities they plan to do.

Is hotel pickup included?

No. The park is about two hours by car from Guangzhou, and you make your own way there.

When can I go rafting?

Rafting runs from May to October only, subject to weather and water levels. The other activities are available all year.

How long should I plan?

About five hours at the park with all four activities, plus around two hours' travel each way from Guangzhou.

Is it suitable for children or people with reduced mobility?

The glass bridge suits most ages. The rides have strict height and age limits, and none of the activities are suitable for pregnant women. The park involves steps and slopes, so it is not well suited to wheelchairs.

Passports, a change of clothes, a towel, strapped sandals or quick-drying shoes, a waterproof phone pouch, sun protection and water.

When is the best time to visit?

Weekdays from June to September for rafting in warm weather, avoiding national holidays. October and November are cooler and lovely for the glass bridge and the coaster.
