Full Description

Gulong Gorge, Qingyuan's mountain canyon

Gulong Gorge lies in Qingxin district of Qingyuan, a mountainous city in northern Guangdong about two hours by road from Guangzhou. The gorge cuts deep into forested hills, with clear streams, pools and waterfalls fed by the region's heavy summer rains. It has become one of the most popular nature escapes for people from the Pearl River Delta, known for its glass structures and its canyon rafting.

A Gulong Gorge day trip from Guangzhou is easiest by private vehicle, since public transport to the canyon is slow and complicated for visitors who do not read Chinese. On this tour our driver takes care of the road while your guide handles the tickets, so you arrive fresh and ready for the trails. Expect about three hours in the gorge.

The waterfall trail

The visit begins at the foot of the gorge, where a path of steps and walkways climbs beside a chain of waterfalls tumbling from the top of the hill into green pools. The sound and spray of the water make it a refreshing climb even on warm days, and there are viewpoints and rest spots along the way for photos.

The trail is the most physical part of the day, with many steps, so take it at your own pace; your guide adapts the rhythm to your group. The waterfalls are fullest from April to September, after the rains, while autumn brings clearer skies and cooler air. Good shoes with grip are essential, as stone steps near the water can be wet.

Glass walkway, glass bridge and sky platform

At the top of the gorge, a glass walkway clings to the cliffs, and a long glass bridge crosses the canyon, letting you look straight down through transparent panels to the river far below. For many visitors, walking across is a real test of nerves and the most memorable moment of the day.

Beyond the bridge, a cantilevered glass viewing platform reaches out into the air, around 70 metres above the ground, facing the great waterfall that drops from the mountain into the canyon. The structures are built and inspected to strict standards, and anyone who prefers to stay on solid ground can enjoy the views from the edge. Is Gulong Gorge worth visiting? For glass-bridge views and waterfalls this close to Guangzhou, yes.

The Yingxi peak forest

After lunch, a drive of about an hour brings you to the Yingxi peak forest near Yingde, a striking landscape of steep limestone karst hills rising from flat rice fields, small villages and winding streams. It is often compared with the scenery of Guilin, but it is far less visited, and the road through the valley offers wide views of the peaks.

Your guide can ask the driver to stop for photos of the fields and hills, which change colour through the year: bright green in spring and summer, golden at harvest time in autumn. This is the joy of a private tour in the Qingyuan countryside: you stop where you like, for as long as you like, with no group to wait for.

Fairyland Cave and the underground boat ride

Fairyland Cave is a large natural limestone cave hidden in the Yingxi peaks. A path leads you through high chambers decorated with stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations, lit in soft colours that bring out their shapes. Your guide points out the formations that local legend has named after animals and landscapes.

The visit ends on the water: you board a small boat that follows the underground river back towards the entrance, gliding beneath the rock ceiling in a cool, quiet atmosphere. The cave keeps a pleasant temperature all year, which makes it a welcome break on hot days. Allow about an hour, then our driver takes you back to Guangzhou, arriving at your hotel in the evening.

How many people can join, and how many fit in the vehicle?

The tour is for your own group. Tell us how many people are travelling when you book, and we provide an air-conditioned vehicle with enough seats for everyone.

Is the price per person or per group?
