Full Description

Girona's old town and Jewish Quarter

Girona is one of Catalonia's best-preserved medieval cities, and a day trip to Girona from Barcelona takes about an hour and a half by coach. The colourful houses along the Onyar River are its best-known view, and the old town rises above them with its cathedral, city walls and narrow lanes.

The Jewish Quarter, known as El Call, is one of the best-preserved in Europe and is full of winding alleys, stairways and small squares. You have about an hour and a half of free time to wander, so you can decide whether to climb the cathedral steps, walk along the walls or simply enjoy a coffee by the river.

Figueres and the Dalí Theatre-Museum

Figueres is the birthplace of Salvador Dalí, and the Dalí Theatre-Museum, opened in 1974 on the site of the town's old theatre, is a surreal masterpiece designed by the artist himself. It is one of the most visited museums in Spain, and its rooms, courtyard and glass dome are full of unexpected objects, illusions and paintings, with Dalí buried in a crypt beneath the stage.

In the default option, the museum ticket is included and your guide manages the group entry and gives an introduction so you do not miss anything. If you choose the option without tickets, you can buy them yourself, and it is recommended to do so around midday. Allow about an hour and a half for the visit.

Cadaqués on the Costa Brava

The last stop is Cadaqués, a whitewashed fishing village at the eastern edge of the Iberian Peninsula that seduced Dalí and many other artists. It sits in a sheltered bay, with narrow cobbled lanes climbing to the church above the water, and the atmosphere is much calmer than in the towns earlier in the day.

There is a short guided introduction and then free time for a swim in the turquoise water, a walk through the alleys or a seafood lunch by the bay. The mix of art, history and coast is what makes Girona, Figueres and Cadaqués one of the most rewarding day trips from Barcelona.
