Overview
This full-day coach excursion pairs two of the most rewarding stops inland from Benidorm: the hilltop village of Guadalest, with its castle ruins, cobbled lanes and reservoir views, and the Algar Waterfalls, where a river tumbles through natural pools you can swim in. A local guide travels with the group, the Algar entry ticket is included, and you get about two hours of free time at each stop. Choose the Benidorm or Alicante departure that suits you.
Highlights
- Guadalest, a whitewashed village perched on a rocky ridge above a turquoise reservoir

- Two departure choices: Benidorm or Alicante
Full Description
Guadalest, the village on the rock
Guadalest sits on a sheer rocky crest in the Marina Baixa, about forty minutes by road from Benidorm, and it is one of the most photographed villages in the province of Alicante. The old quarter is reached through a passage cut into the rock, and beyond it lie cobbled lanes, whitewashed houses and the remains of a castle that began as a Moorish stronghold and was badly damaged by an earthquake in the eighteenth century.
On our Guadalest day trip you have around two hours to wander. Climb to the upper viewpoints for the classic outlook over the turquoise reservoir and the mountains behind it, look into the small village museums, and stop for a coffee in the square. The best time to visit Guadalest is the morning, before the lanes fill up, and the guide will tell you where to start.
The Algar Waterfalls near Callosa d'en Sarrià
The Algar Waterfalls, known locally as Fuentes del Algar, are formed by the Algar River as it drops through a green gorge into a series of clear natural pools. Wooden bridges and stone steps lead from one level to the next, with shaded paths, small cascades and spots where you can cool off. It is a protected natural area, so the setting stays unspoilt even in summer.
Your ticket to the Algar Waterfalls is included in the option you book, so there is no queue to sort out on arrival. Allow about two hours here: enough for a swim, a photo stop on the bridges and a rest in the picnic area. Are the Algar Waterfalls worth visiting? Combined with Guadalest, they make one of the most balanced days out from Benidorm, with a little culture and a lot of fresh water.
Choosing your departure: Benidorm or Alicante
We offer this excursion from Benidorm and from Alicante, and the two options run to different schedules. The Benidorm departure meets at Avenida de Europa and takes roughly six hours in total, while the Alicante departure meets at Puerta del Mar and takes about eight hours because of the longer drive to the mountains.
Pick the option that matches where you are staying, because the meeting point and timings are different. Hotel pickup is not part of either option, so plan to reach the meeting point a few minutes early. Your booking confirmation gives the exact time and details for the day you select.

Important information
- Wear comfortable shoes: Guadalest has cobbled lanes and many steps to the best viewpoints
- Bring swimwear, a towel and a change of clothes for the Algar Waterfalls
- Water shoes are helpful because the river bed can be stony; flip-flops are not ideal
- Bring a sun hat, sunscreen and water, and pack your own snacks or lunch (food and tips are not included)
- Choose the correct departure option when booking, because the schedules for Benidorm and Alicante differ
- Swimming rules at the falls can change with water conditions and local authority decisions
- Summer weekends are busiest, so an early departure gives you a calmer experience
