Full Description
Guadalest, the castle village
Guadalest is a small village built on a rocky outcrop in the Marina Baixa mountains, entered through a passage cut in the rock. Its castle began as a Moorish fortress and was largely destroyed by an earthquake in the eighteenth century, but the ruins, the cobbled lanes and the bell tower still make it one of the most photographed villages on the Costa Blanca.
During your free time in Guadalest, climb to the viewpoints for the view across the turquoise reservoir, stroll the lanes and look into the small museums, which your booking gives you discounts for. Entry tickets to those museums are not included. The best time to visit Guadalest is early, before coaches fill the lanes.
Altea and its blue-domed church
Altea is a coastal town of whitewashed houses climbing a hill to the church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, whose blue-and-white tiled domes are visible from far along the coast. The old quarter is a tangle of cobbled lanes, flower-filled corners, small galleries and craft shops, and it has long attracted artists.
With your free time in Altea, climb to the church square for the best view over the bay, then browse the lanes and take a break at a terrace. If you are asking how to visit Altea from Benidorm, this day trip is the simplest way: the coach handles the driving and you just choose how to spend your hours.
The Algar Waterfalls
The Algar Waterfalls, or Fuentes del Algar, are a series of cascades and clear natural pools carved by the Algar River in a green gorge near Callosa d'en Sarrià. Paths, bridges and steps lead from level to level, and in warm weather the pools are a welcome place to swim.
Entry to the Algar Waterfalls is included in your booking, so you go straight in. Bring swimwear, a towel and water shoes, since the rocks can be uneven and slippery. Swimming can be restricted by local authorities when conditions are unsafe, and summer afternoons are busy.
A full day from Benidorm
The day runs for about nine hours, which includes the drives between the three stops, free time at each place. The exact meeting spot in Benidorm is sent with your booking confirmation, together with the start time.
The group is guided in English and Spanish. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included, and neither are food, drinks or museum entry in Guadalest. This is a good choice if you want one organised day that covers a castle village, a coastal old town and a swimming spot, without arranging three separate trips.
