Full Description

The Algar Waterfalls (Fuentes del Algar)

The Algar Waterfalls lie in the valley of the Algar River near Callosa d'en Sarrià, in the mountains behind the Costa Blanca. Water runs down through a series of natural levels, forming cascades, small diving spots and quiet pools that stay cool even on the hottest afternoons. A path of stone steps and wooden bridges links the levels, so you can choose how far up the gorge to go.

On this Algar Waterfalls trip you have about three hours at the site, which is long enough for a swim, a climb to the higher pools and a rest in the shade. Is the Algar Waterfalls trip worth it? For anyone staying in Benidorm who wants a break from the beach, it is an easy and memorable way to spend half a day.

Pick-up from Albir and Benidorm

The coach stops at four points: the roundabout by the Albir Playa Hotel and the Lidl supermarket in Albir, in front of Hotel Sol Pelicanos on Calle Gerona, at the bus stop by the Poseidon Playa hotel on the main beach road, and at the steps of Gran Hotel Bali, all in Benidorm. Choose the stop nearest your accommodation when you book.

This is a pickup from a meeting stop, not from your hotel door. The total length depends on the stop: roughly five hours from the Benidorm stops and about six hours from Albir. Our representative confirms the time and exact meeting spot, and the return drop-off follows the pick-up points in reverse order.

What to expect on the route and in the water

From the car park, the entrance involves a steep climb on foot, and once inside there are steps beside the falls to reach the upper areas. The rocks are natural, so they can be uneven and slippery. Water shoes or beach shoes are the best choice, and flip-flops are not suitable. A reasonable level of fitness makes the visit more comfortable.

There is a designated picnic area away from the main pools, and the site rules on bringing food into the falls are set by the site and can change, so check with our representative on the day. In summer the waterfalls are very busy, and swimming can be restricted when local authorities judge the water unsafe. The trip still runs in those conditions unless the site is closed.

The Costa Blanca beyond the beach

The Marina Baixa region is more than sand and hotels. Inside, orchards, terraced hillsides and mountain villages such as Callosa d'en Sarrià and Guadalest show another side of the coast. The waterfalls make the easiest introduction, because the journey from Benidorm is short and the day is over in time for an evening meal.

If you have another day to spare, our Guadalest and Algar excursion adds the hilltop village and its castle viewpoints, and our Benidorm Palace tickets cover the evening. Together they make a well-rounded stay. Many travellers book the waterfalls early in their stay and keep the rest of the week free for the beach.
