Full Description

Arona and La Escalona on the climb

The tour starts by heading inland from the coast on the road that climbs through the municipality of Arona and the small mountain village of La Escalona. Within minutes the resort towns fade and the scenery turns to terraced fields, almond and pine trees and deep valleys. Riding a quad here gives you a very different view from a car or coach, because you feel the fresh air, smell the pines and follow the guide in a small convoy.

This is a quad bike tour for people who want an adventure that is both scenic and safe: the whole route is on asphalt, the pace is steady and the guide-monitor gives instructions before you start and along the way.

Vilaflor and free time

Vilaflor is a charming whitewashed village at roughly 1,400 metres, known as the highest village in Spain. You stop here for free time, so you can stretch your legs, walk around the small square and its church, or have a coffee before the last part of the climb. The clean mountain air and the pine forest that surrounds the village make it a popular stop on the road towards Mount Teide.

Many visitors ask if a Vilaflor visit is worth it. On this tour it is a short but pleasant break, and it gives a glimpse of everyday mountain life away from the resorts.

Boca Tauce viewpoint and Teide National Park

The highlight is Boca Tauce, a viewpoint and crossroads inside Teide National Park at around 2,050 metres. Here the landscape looks lunar: black lava fields, pale pumice and strange rock formations, all under the towering cone of Mount Teide, at 3,715 metres the highest mountain in Spain. You have free time to breathe the thin, fresh air, take photographs and enjoy the silence.

For anyone planning a day trip to Teide National Park from the south of Tenerife, this quad tour is an active alternative to a coach excursion. Layers are essential, because temperatures at the top can be far cooler than on the coast.

Driving rules, clothing and practical details

To drive a quad you must be at least 25 years old and hold a valid original category B driving licence that you have had for at least two years.
