Full Description
Moalboal Sardine Run at Panagsama Beach
Moalboal is a small town on the southwest coast of Cebu, about two and a half to three hours by road from Cebu City, and it is known worldwide for one thing: the sardine run. A vast shoal of sardines lives all year just off the reef edge at Panagsama Beach, only a few metres from the shore, and moves like a silver cloud that twists and turns around you. Snorkellers float above it while the fish sweep below and beside them.
On this private Moalboal day trip from Cebu your licensed guide leads you in from the beach with mask, snorkel, life vest and a buoy, so even moderate swimmers feel safe. The reef wall drops away just beyond the shoal, and green sea turtles are often spotted grazing on the sea grass. Turtles are watched from a distance and never touched, and no sighting is guaranteed. Plan about an hour in the water.
Kawasan Canyoneering in Alegria and Badian
Kawasan canyoneering is the signature adventure of southern Cebu. The course starts upstream in the hills of Alegria, where a clear river has cut a narrow limestone gorge. Wearing a helmet, life jacket and canyoneering shoes, you follow the river down with your guides, swimming through blue-green pools, sliding over smooth rocks and jumping from ledges into deep water. The higher jumps are always optional and can be bypassed.
The full course usually takes three to four hours depending on your group and the water level, and it is the most memorable part of the day for most travellers. Is Kawasan canyoneering worth it? If you enjoy water and a little adrenaline, absolutely: the colour of the river is unlike anything else on the island. You do not need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable in water and able to walk on uneven, wet ground.
Kawasan Falls
The canyoneering course ends at Kawasan Falls in Badian, the best-known waterfall in Cebu. The main cascade pours into a wide turquoise basin surrounded by jungle, with smaller tiers further up the stream. After hours in the canyon, it is a beautiful place to rest, swim and take photos before heading back to the vehicle.
Many travellers ask how to get to Kawasan Falls from Cebu City. It is about three hours by road, and the trip is long on public buses, which is why a private vehicle makes this day so much easier. The best time to visit Kawasan Falls is the dry season from December to May, when the water is at its clearest. After heavy rain the river can turn cloudy and canyoneering may be paused for safety.
The Southwest Coast Road and Lunch
The drive from Cebu City crosses the mountainous spine of the island and then runs down the southwest coast through small towns, rice fields and coconut groves, with glimpses of the Tañon Strait and the island of Negros on the horizon. Our driver can stop for a coffee or a photo whenever you like, because the vehicle is only for your party.
A freshly prepared Filipino lunch is served during the day, usually around the canyoneering section, with dishes such as grilled chicken or fish, rice and vegetables. Vegetarian, vegan, halal and other diets can be prepared on request, so please tell us when you book. A granola snack and bottled water are included too.
Why Book This Tour Private
A private Kawasan canyoneering tour means your own air-conditioned vehicle, your own driver and your own licensed guides, with no waiting for other travellers at hotel stops or between activities. You choose a pickup time between very early morning and mid-morning, and you can spend longer at the sardine run or take the canyon at a relaxed pace.
It is ideal for families, couples and groups of friends travelling together, and for anyone who wants guides focused only on them in the water. Pickup and drop-off are at your hotel or address in Cebu City or Mactan, and all entrance and environmental fees for both activities are already arranged, so the day runs smoothly from start to finish.

Any size of private party can book. We match the vehicle to your group, from a car for two to a van for larger families or groups of friends.
