Full Description

Meeting your camel and the countryside trail

After pickup from your hotel, our driver takes you to the camel station in the south-east of the island, where the guides prepare the camels with traditional saddles and blankets. Your guide shows you how to mount while the camel kneels, and how to hold on as it rises, the most surprising and fun moment for first-timers.

The ride then follows sandy trails through a quiet landscape of olive trees, palms, prickly pears and low dunes, far from the hotels and traffic. Each camel walks at a steady, gentle pace, led by the guide, so you can simply relax and enjoy the views. The guide explains the role of camels in the life of southern Tunisia, where they carried goods across the desert for centuries. This calm start is what makes a camel ride in Djerba so relaxing.

The Blue Lagoon

The first highlight is the Blue Lagoon, a shallow, sheltered stretch of water on the east coast of Djerba, protected from the open sea by sand banks. Its colour ranges from pale turquoise to deep emerald depending on the light and the depth, and the surface is usually calm as a mirror.

Herons, egrets and sometimes pink flamingos feed in the shallows, especially from autumn to spring. Seen from the height of a camel's back, the contrast between the white sand, the green palms and the blue water is spectacular, and the guide stops for photos. If you are looking for the best way to see the Djerba Blue Lagoon, this unhurried ride along its shores is one of the most memorable options.

Seguia Beach

The ride continues to Seguia Beach, on the south-east coast of the island, one of the most beautiful and least developed beaches of Djerba. A long strip of fine white sand meets crystal-clear, shallow water in shades of turquoise, with only a few palm trees and fishermen's huts along the shore.

Here you can dismount for a short break, walk on the sand, dip your feet in the water and take photos with your camel against the sea. The atmosphere is calm and natural, far from the busy beaches of the tourist zone. Seguia Beach is often described as one of the hidden gems of the island, and visiting it by camel adds a special touch to the experience.

Morning or sunset ride

Two departures are available: a morning ride at around 09:00, when the air is fresh and the light is clear, and a late afternoon ride at around 17:00, when the sun sinks low and paints the sand and water in golden tones. The late ride is a favourite for photographers and couples, while families with young children often prefer the morning.

In summer, the morning ride avoids the strongest heat; in spring and autumn both times are pleasant. After returning to the camel station, our driver takes you back to your hotel. The best time to visit Djerba for outdoor activities like this is from April to June and September to November, when temperatures are mild and the light is beautiful.
