This day cruise combines the three things Nha Trang Bay does best: coral reefs, island life and a relaxing mud bath. We pick you up at your hotel in Nha Trang city centre and the boat sails to Hon Mun Marine Park for snorkelling over coral gardens. Next comes a floating fishing village, where you see its fish farms and aquarium and enjoy a barbecue lunch of seafood, grilled meats and tropical fruit. The afternoon ends on Hon Tam Island with a soak in warm mineral mud at an island resort, plus time for fishing and paddleboarding. Full Description
Hon Mun Marine Park: snorkelling in Nha Trang Bay
The cruise's first stop is Hon Mun, a dark, rocky island about 10 km southeast of the city whose waters became Vietnam's first marine protected area in 2001. Its sheltered coves hold some of the richest coral in the country, with hard and soft corals, parrotfish, butterflyfish, damselfish and clownfish in their anemones, and occasionally a turtle.
The guide hands out the equipment and shows you how to use it before you slip into the water for about an hour of snorkelling. Please note that under current park rules, snorkels and full-face masks may not be allowed at Hon Mun and guests may be given simple swimming goggles instead; if conditions change or the sea is rough, the boat moves to another coral reef nearby. Life jackets are available for non-swimmers.
The floating fishing village and its aquarium
Around midday the boat moors at a floating fishing village in the bay, a cluster of wooden rafts and fish cages where families raise fish, lobsters and other seafood. Here you can see how aquaculture works in Nha Trang, with tanks of local species, feeding demonstrations and an aquarium that recreates the bay's underwater habitats.
It is a peaceful, authentic contrast to the busy city beaches, and children especially enjoy watching the fish up close. Lunch is served here: a barbecue of fresh seafood, grilled meats and tropical fruit with a sea breeze around you. Drinks with the meal are not included but can be bought on site; tell us in advance if you need vegetarian or no-pork food, as halal-certified food on the islands is limited.
Hon Tam Island and the mineral mud bath
The afternoon is spent on Hon Tam, a green island south of Hon Tre with calm beaches and a four-star resort known for its mud baths. Mud bathing is one of Nha Trang's most popular experiences: the warm, mineral-rich mud is said to soften the skin and relax tired muscles, and after soaking you rinse off under showers and in the mineral water pools.
Allow about two hours on the island to bathe, swim and rest by the beach. If you are wondering whether a Nha Trang mud bath is worth it, this is a gentle way to end a day at sea without travelling back across the city. Bring a swimsuit you do not mind getting stained, as the mud can leave light marks on pale fabrics.
Cruising Nha Trang Bay
Between the stops, the boat cruises past the islands of Nha Trang Bay, a member of the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World. Hon Tre, the largest island, rises steeply behind the city, and the long cable car line crosses the water towards it. The guide points out the islands, fishing boats and coastal villages along the way.
During the cruise you can try a little line fishing from the boat or take out a stand-up paddleboard in calm water, depending on the day's conditions. It is a relaxed itinerary designed for all ages, mixing time in the water with time to sit back and enjoy the view, which makes it one of the most complete Nha Trang island tours for a single day.
Best time to go and how to get there
The best time to visit Nha Trang Bay for snorkelling and island trips is from February to August, when the sea is calm and visibility is good. From September to December, the rainy season brings rougher seas, and the schedule or snorkelling spot may change for safety, or the cruise may be cancelled; we will contact you if that happens.
How to get to the Nha Trang islands: boats leave from the port on the city's southern edge, and this cruise includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Nha Trang city centre. Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) is about 35 to 45 minutes from the city, so this day trip fits easily into a short stay.
