Mui Ne
Plan Mui Ne with Haqqi Tours: day tours, private airport transfers, attraction tickets and packages, run by our own team and confirmed on WhatsApp in Arabic or English.
Just before sunrise, the White Sand Dunes north of Mui Ne glow pale pink. Wind ripples the slopes into fine lines, a small lake lies still among the lotus at their foot, and the only marks on the sand are the tracks of the morning's first vehicles. Back on the coast, round basket boats bob in the harbour as fishermen bring in the night's catch, and the smell of the sea mixes with the scent of drying fish and fresh bread.

Mui Ne is a long beach resort on Vietnam's south-central coast, just east of the city of Phan Thiet and about three to four hours from Ho Chi Minh City by expressway. Famous for its red and white sand dunes, its steady winter winds and one of the driest climates in the country, it combines kitesurfing beaches and seafood restaurants with a busy fishing harbour, ancient Cham towers and dragon-fruit farms.
Why include Mui Ne in your itinerary?
- Desert dunes by the sea. The red dunes near the village and the vast white dunes further north feel like a desert landscape on the edge of the South China Sea, magical at sunrise and sunset.
- Wind, sun and sea. Mui Ne is one of the driest places in Vietnam, and from November to March steady winds make it a famous kitesurfing and windsurfing spot, with calmer days for swimming in the summer months.
- Fishing life and Cham heritage. The harbour full of basket boats, the Po Shanu Cham towers, the Fairy Stream and the reclining Buddha on Ta Cu mountain add culture and colour to a relaxed beach stay.
Signature experiences in Mui Ne
White and Red Sand Dunes
The White Sand Dunes at Bau Trang, about an hour north-east of Mui Ne, are a sea of pale sand around freshwater lakes, best at sunrise when the light is soft and the air cool. The Red Sand Dunes, close to the village, glow deep orange at sunset. Jeeps take visitors across the white dunes, and our sunrise and sunset tours include hotel pickup and a local guide.
Fishing Village and Harbour
Early in the morning, the bay at Mui Ne fishing village fills with hundreds of colourful boats and round basket boats as fishermen bring their catch ashore. Women sort fish, shrimp and squid on the sand, and traders buy straight from the boats. It is one of the most lively sights on the coast, best seen from the viewpoint above the harbour soon after sunrise.
Fairy Stream
The Fairy Stream is a shallow, sandy stream that winds through a small canyon of red and white sandstone shaped by wind and water. Visitors walk barefoot in the ankle-deep water past striking rock formations and bamboo groves to a small waterfall. It is close to the resort strip, easy for families, and usually combined with the fishing village and the Red Sand Dunes.
Ta Cu Mountain and the Reclining Buddha
South-west of Phan Thiet, a cable car climbs through the forest of Ta Cu mountain to a peaceful pagoda complex near the summit, with a reclining Buddha nearly fifty metres long, one of the largest in Vietnam. The views over the coast and the cool forest air make it a pleasant half-day trip. We arrange the visit with tickets and private transport.
Po Shanu Cham Towers and Ke Ga
On a hill between Phan Thiet and Mui Ne, the Po Shanu Cham towers date back to the eighth century and look out over the sea and the city. Further south, the Ke Ga lighthouse, built of granite more than a century ago, stands on a rocky islet off a quiet beach. Our private tours by vehicle combine these with dragon-fruit farms and the coast road.
Neighbourhoods and quarters to know in Mui Ne
Ham Tien Resort Strip
The main road along Ham Tien beach is lined with resorts, hotels, seafood restaurants and cafés facing the sea. It is the most practical base for first-time visitors, with the kitesurfing beaches, the Fairy Stream and the Red Sand Dunes all close by. Many resorts have direct beach access, and evenings are relaxed along the strip.
Mui Ne Village and Hon Rom
East of the resort strip, the old fishing village of Mui Ne surrounds the harbour, with local markets and simple seafood places, while Hon Rom further on has quieter beaches and small resorts. Staying here suits travellers who want a local atmosphere and easy access to the White Sand Dunes. It is calmer in the evenings than Ham Tien.
Phan Thiet City
Phan Thiet is the city centre, about twenty minutes west of Mui Ne, with markets, a riverside full of fishing boats, the water tower landmark and the nearest railway station. Hotels here are more local in feel, and the city beach of Doi Duong is close by. It is practical for travellers arriving by train or wanting city life.
Tien Thanh and Ke Ga
South-west of Phan Thiet, the coast toward Tien Thanh and Ke Ga is quiet and less developed, with long empty beaches, a few large resorts and the Ke Ga lighthouse. It suits families and couples seeking space and calm, though it is further from the dunes and the restaurants of Mui Ne, so private transfers are useful.
How long to stay in Mui Ne and how to pair it
Recommended stay
We recommend three nights in Mui Ne. Spend one day on a sunrise tour of the White Sand Dunes with the fishing village, the Fairy Stream and the Red Sand Dunes at sunset, one at Ta Cu mountain and the Po Shanu Cham towers, and one relaxing on the beach or taking a kitesurfing lesson. With four or five nights, add Ke Ga and more beach time.
How to pair it
Mui Ne pairs naturally with Ho Chi Minh City, about three to four hours away by expressway or four hours by train to Phan Thiet, and with Dalat, about four hours away by mountain road. A seven-day trip combines Ho Chi Minh City and Mui Ne. In ten days, add Dalat. A fourteen-day journey can link Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City and Mui Ne.
Best time to visit Mui Ne and the rhythm of the day
Best months
The best time to visit Mui Ne is the dry season from November to April, with sunny days and very little rain. November to March is windy, which is perfect for kitesurfing but can make the sea rough for swimming. May to October brings short afternoon showers and calmer seas, and Mui Ne remains one of the driest places in Vietnam all year.
The daily rhythm
Days in Mui Ne start very early, with sunrise at the White Sand Dunes and the fishing harbour at its busiest soon after dawn. Late mornings and middays are for the pool, the beach or a rest out of the heat. Kitesurfers head out when the afternoon wind picks up, sunset belongs to the Red Sand Dunes, and evenings are for seafood along the beach road.
On-the-ground logistics in Mui Ne
Arrival
Mui Ne has no airport. Most visitors arrive from Ho Chi Minh City, about three to four hours away by expressway, or from Tan Son Nhat International Airport directly. Daily trains from Saigon Railway Station reach Phan Thiet station in about four hours, about forty minutes from the resort strip. We issue train tickets and arrange private transfers from Ho Chi Minh City, the airport or the station to your hotel.
Getting around
The resort strip is long and narrow, and taxis and ride-hailing apps are easy to find along the beach road. The White Sand Dunes, Ta Cu mountain and Ke Ga are further away, and roads in the dune area are quiet but long. A private car with driver arranged by our team is the most comfortable way to reach the dunes for sunrise and combine the sights in one day.
Local etiquette tip
Mui Ne is relaxed and used to visitors. Swimwear is fine on the beach and at the pool, but cover shoulders and knees at pagodas, the Cham towers and Ta Cu, removing shoes where others do. At the fishing harbour, keep out of the workers' way and ask before photographing people. Bargain politely at markets. Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask most about Mui Ne.
Where should first-time visitors stay in Mui Ne?
First-time visitors usually stay on the Ham Tien resort strip, close to the beach, restaurants, the Fairy Stream and the Red Sand Dunes. For a quieter, more local feel, Mui Ne village and Hon Rom are good choices, while Tien Thanh and Ke Ga suit those seeking space. Our team can suggest a hotel in any area and arrange your private transfer.
Can Mui Ne be done as a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City, or does it need an overnight stay?
A day trip from Ho Chi Minh City is possible but long, with six to eight hours on the road in total and no time for sunrise at the dunes. One or two nights let you enjoy the White Sand Dunes at dawn, the fishing harbour and sunset at the Red Sand Dunes. We arrange both, with private transfers or train tickets.
What is the dress code and etiquette in Mui Ne?
Mui Ne is relaxed, and swimwear is normal on the beach and at the pool. In town wear light clothes, and cover shoulders and knees at pagodas, the Cham towers and Ta Cu mountain, removing shoes where others do. At the harbour, ask before photographing people and bargain politely at markets. Our guides explain local customs on the way.
Is Mui Ne tourist friendly, and is halal food available?
Yes. Mui Ne welcomes visitors from all over the world, and hotels and restaurants are used to many nationalities. Halal-certified food is limited, but a few Indian restaurants operate on the resort strip, and fresh seafood, fish and vegetable dishes are easy to find. The nearest well-established mosques are in Ho Chi Minh City. We can advise on restaurants.
Is it safe to travel to Mui Ne now?
Mui Ne is generally considered safe, with a friendly local community. Take normal care with belongings and traffic on the beach road, and respect sea conditions, as strong winter winds and currents can make swimming risky. Protect yourself from the sun at the dunes. Before departure, check your own government's official travel advice and keep our WhatsApp line handy.
What are the must-do things in Mui Ne?
The must-do things in Mui Ne include sunrise at the White Sand Dunes, sunset at the Red Sand Dunes, the fishing harbour, the Fairy Stream, the reclining Buddha on Ta Cu mountain and the Po Shanu Cham towers. Our private tours combine these at a relaxed seaside pace, with time left for the beach.
How many days do you need in Mui Ne?
Three days is ideal for Mui Ne: one for the dunes, the fishing harbour and the Fairy Stream, one for Ta Cu mountain and the Cham towers, and one for the beach or kitesurfing. Two days cover the highlights at a quicker rhythm, while five days allow a true beach holiday.
What can I book in Mui Ne with Haqqi Tours?

With a private transfer: a driver at arrivals, flight tracking and a fixed price for the whole vehicle, door to door. Tell the desk the flight number and the hotel.

The expressway from Ho Chi Minh City reaches Mui Ne in about three to four hours, and daily trains run from Saigon Railway Station to Phan Thiet in about four hours. With luggage, a family or a late flight, the private car is the simpler choice.
Which tours are available in Mui Ne?
Among them: Mui Ne Day Trip with Fairy Stream and Sand Dunes from Ho Chi Minh City, Private Ta Cu Mountain Cable Car and Reclining Buddha Tour from Mui Ne, Mui Ne Sand Dunes Sunrise or Sunset Jeep Tour and Mui Ne Sand Dunes Jeep Tour with Quad Ride. Each page says whether the day is private or small-group, what it includes and how long it lasts.

How do I book?
Fill in the form on any page or message us on WhatsApp with the date, the number of travellers and the hotel. A member of our team confirms the price and the details in writing within minutes.
Are the prices fixed?
