Full Description

Tian Tai 131 and the Chongqing World Trade Center

Tian Tai 131 occupies the upper floors and rooftop of the Chongqing World Trade Center, one of the landmark towers of Jiefangbei, the commercial heart of the Yuzhong peninsula. The experience starts with the ride itself: a high-speed glass lift fixed to the outside of the building, climbing more than two hundred metres while the city drops away beneath your feet.

At the top you reach the observation deck at about 262 metres, with indoor galleries and a spacious open-air platform under a transparent roof some twenty metres high. A glass walkway and other sky-high viewing spots add a small thrill for those who enjoy heights. Most visitors spend 45 minutes to an hour and a half up here, and your ticket allows unlimited time during opening hours.

The view: two rivers and the mountain city

From the deck you look straight down onto the tip of the Yuzhong peninsula at Chaotianmen, where the brownish Yangtze meets the greener Jialing River. Locals compare the two-coloured water to the split pot of a Chongqing hot pot. Around it, towers climb steep hillsides, bridges and cable cars cross both rivers, and roads, monorails and stairways stack on top of each other.

This layered terrain is why Chongqing is nicknamed the 8D city: a street at ground level on one side of a building may be its tenth floor on the other. On a clear day you can follow the ridges of the surrounding mountains; on a misty day the towers rise out of the haze, which many photographers prefer.

Tian Tai 131 opening hours and the best time to visit

Tian Tai 131 opening hours are 10:00 to 23:00 every day, with last entry around 22:00, subject to weather and on-site conditions. Your ticket is valid for the whole chosen day, so you can pick your moment. Late afternoon is the best time to visit if you want both views: arrive about an hour before sunset, watch the light fade and stay as the riverbanks and bridges light up.

Is Tian Tai 131 worth visiting? If you want one panoramic view that explains Chongqing's unusual geography, yes, especially at night, when Hongyadong and both riverbanks glow. The open-air platform can be windy and cool, even in summer, so bring a layer. Weekends and public holidays are busiest in the evening, when short queues for the lift are normal.

How to get to Tian Tai 131 and what is nearby

How to get to Tian Tai 131: the tower stands in Jiaochangkou, on the edge of the Jiefangbei pedestrian district, a few minutes on foot from Jiaochangkou metro station (Lines 1 and 2). From most central hotels a taxi takes 10 to 20 minutes. Follow the signs inside the building to the observation lift and show your mobile voucher at the entrance.

The deck combines easily with the rest of central Chongqing. Jiefangbei's Liberation Monument square is a short stroll away, Hongyadong's illuminated stilt buildings on the Jialing riverbank are about 15 minutes on foot, and Chaotianmen, where the Two Rivers night cruises depart, is close by. Many travellers visit the deck first, then continue to the riverside for the evening.
