Full Description
Shanghai Tower in Lujiazui, Pudong
Shanghai Tower rises 632 metres above the Lujiazui financial district and is the tallest building in China. Its façade twists gently as it climbs, a design that reduces wind pressure on the structure and gives the skyline its unmistakable spiral profile. It stands beside the Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center, forming the most photographed trio of towers in the country.
If you are asking whether Shanghai Tower is worth visiting, the answer is yes for anyone who wants to understand the scale of the city. From the top you see how far Pudong stretches, where the Huangpu River bends, and how the old Bund faces the new skyline across the water.
Top of Shanghai Observation Deck on the 118th and 119th floors
Top of Shanghai sits at about 546 metres, high enough to look down on the neighbouring skyscrapers. The glass-enclosed deck wraps all the way round, so you can walk a full circle, spot the Oriental Pearl Tower, follow the river out to the Yangtze estuary and pick out the historic Bund on the west bank. There is a café and a small boutique on the level, so you can stay as long as you like.
The best time to visit Shanghai Tower is late afternoon on a clear day: you arrive in daylight, watch the sun go down and stay for the city lights. Visibility changes with the weather, so check the forecast, and allow around an hour for a relaxed visit.
The 126th floor and the musical light show
The higher option adds the 125th and 126th floors, among the highest points in the world open to visitors. Here an exhibition explains the giant tuned mass damper that keeps the tower steady in typhoon winds, and the level hosts a short light-and-music show that fills the space with colour and sound.
Because this option is a separate ticket, choose it on the booking panel before you pay. If your Shanghai Tower observation deck tickets are for the lower deck only, you will not have access to the 126th floor on the same visit.
Getting there, opening hours and skip-the-queue entry
To get to Shanghai Tower, take Metro Line 2 to Lujiazui station and walk through the elevated Lujiazui pedestrian ring, which is about ten minutes on foot. The entrance is at the base of the tower, where our ticket lets you skip the ticket-desk queue and go straight to security.
Opening hours change by season and the last entry is before closing, so check the time slot on the booking panel. Carry your passport, because attractions in China may ask for ID, and remember that large bags and tripods are usually not allowed inside.

The price depends on the option you choose. The booking panel on this page shows the current price for each option, for adults and children, so you can compare before you pay.
Is hotel pickup included?
No. This is an entry ticket, so you make your own way to the tower. Metro Line 2 to Lujiazui is the easiest route, and taxis and ride-hailing cars can drop you at the entrance.
How long should I spend at the observation deck?
Plan about one hour for the 118th and 119th floors, or up to about an hour and a half if your option includes the 126th floor and the musical light show.
What is the difference between the two options?
The first option covers the observation deck on the 118th and 119th floors. The second adds the 126th floor with the exhibition and the musical light show. Check the description beside each option on the booking panel.
Is the Shanghai Tower visit suitable for children?
