Full Description
Tokyo Disneyland in Urayasu
Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983 in Urayasu, Chiba, and was the first Disney park built outside the United States. It sits beside its sister park, Tokyo DisneySea, in the Tokyo Disney Resort, and is famous for its immaculate presentation, its detailed theming and its warm, unhurried atmosphere.
The park is laid out around Cinderella Castle, and much of it will feel familiar if you have seen other Disney parks, with its own Japanese touches. If you are wondering whether Tokyo Disneyland is worth it, most visitors say yes because of the detail, the shows and the seasonal celebrations.
The seven themed lands and what to see
Tokyo Disneyland is divided into seven lands: World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland, Critter Country, Fantasyland, Toontown and Tomorrowland. Popular attractions include Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Pooh's Hunny Hunt and Monsters, Inc. Ride and Go Seek.
Fantasyland has the Beauty and the Beast area, with a ride through the Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast, plus classic dark rides for small children. Toontown is a playful space for younger children to meet characters. Each land has its own dining outlets, shops and photo spots.
Parades, shows and seasonal events
Entertainment is a big part of the day. Daytime parades and stage shows move through the park, and in the evening the castle becomes the backdrop for light shows and music. Seasonal decorations change through the year, with Halloween and Christmas being especially popular.
Check the park's official schedule when you arrive, as parade times and event details change, and keep an eye on the park's app for updates. Some attractions may close for maintenance. Re-entry policy and special event restrictions are set by the park, so read the information on your voucher before you go.
Getting to Tokyo Disneyland and planning your day
The park is about 15 minutes by train from Tokyo Station on the JR Keiyo Line to Maihama Station, and then a short walk or a ride on the Disney Resort Line monorail. Arrive before opening for shorter queues at the main attractions, and go to the most popular rides first.
Wear comfortable shoes, bring a charged phone for your mobile e-ticket and the park's app, and pack a small bag. Large suitcases, hazardous items and selfie sticks are generally not allowed. The passport is valid for Tokyo Disneyland only, and it does not include access to DisneySea, the Park Hopper or Premier Access.
