Full Description

Amarilla harbour in southern Tenerife

The submarine leaves from the marina at Amarilla, at the quiet southern tip of Tenerife, well away from the busiest beaches. Check-in is next to the harbour office, and you walk aboard a spacious yellow submarine with seats facing large round windows. If you choose the meeting-point option, plan to be at the harbour 30 minutes before the dive time; parking is available near the harbour office or along the port wall.

Many visitors look for a submarine tour in Tenerife because it is a real underwater trip rather than a boat with a glass floor. It is also one of the best things to do in southern Tenerife on a day when the sea is too rough for swimming or kayaking, since the ride is smooth inside the vessel.

The 50-minute dive and what you see underwater

During the dive the submarine descends to about 30 metres and at one point settles on the sea bed. Through the panoramic windows you may see flute fish, parrotfish, barracuda, octopus and a family of stingrays that live on the sandy floor. Experienced divers swim outside the windows and tempt fish closer, which gives you better photographs and a proper sense of life at depth.

The cabin is bright, airy and comfortable, with an audio guide that explains the Atlantic ecosystem and why it matters to protect it. Sightings depend on the day, but the site is known for its variety, and the whole dive lasts 50 minutes.

Hotel bus transfer and the different options

The option shown first includes a bus transfer from selected hotels and stops in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Americas, Playa Paraiso, Callao Salvaje and Los Cristianos. It removes the stress of driving and parking, and total time is around two and a half hours. A second option collects guests from Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago, and takes about three hours in total. The third option has no transfer: you meet at the harbour and the visit lasts about one hour.

Choose the option that matches where you are staying. After booking, check your email or phone for the pickup point and time; the pickup instructions are sent to you before the day.

Planning your submarine trip: timing, children and tips

Dive times are guidelines and busy slots can fill early, so book ahead in high season. The best time to visit is any day with a calm sea; midday dives often have good light in the water. The submarine is a family activity: children from 2 years can take part, and there is no swimming or diving skill needed.

Food and drinks are not allowed inside the vessel. Bring a light jacket, as the cabin can feel cool, and a camera or phone with a fast shutter. Ask whether the submarine is suitable for your child by checking the age notes in the booking panel.
