Full Description

The Hon Thom cable car across the sea

The Hon Thom cable car, opened in 2018, runs about 7.9 kilometres from An Thoi on the southern tip of Phu Quoc to Hon Thom Island, passing over the islands of Hon Dua and Hon Roi on the way. It holds the record as the world's longest three-rope cable car over the sea, and its tallest towers lift the cabins high above the channel. The ride takes about fifteen minutes each way.

From the cabin you look down on colourful fishing boats, floating fish farms, small villages and the clear shallows of the An Thoi archipelago. Many visitors ask whether the Hon Thom cable car is worth it; for the views alone, most say yes. Try to sit facing the islands on the way out and towards the main island and Sunset Town on the way back.

Hon Thom Island beaches and viewpoints

Hon Thom, which means pineapple island, is the largest island of the An Thoi group. Once known for its pineapple plantations and fishing, it is now a leisure island with landscaped paths, beaches and viewpoints. Your ticket gives access to these areas, so you can swim at the beach, rest under the palms or follow the paths to lookouts over the sea and the cable car line.

The beaches have soft sand and calm, clear water, especially in the dry season from November to April, which is the best time to visit Hon Thom. In the rainy months from May to October the sea can be rougher and showers more frequent, though they rarely last long. Shaded seating is available and the island is easy to explore at an unhurried pace.

The water park on Hon Thom

The ticket includes entry to one of the largest water parks in Vietnam, built on the hillside of Hon Thom with views over the sea. It has high-speed slides and tube rides for thrill seekers, a wave pool, a lazy river and shallow splash areas with smaller slides for young children, so every age group has something to enjoy.

The water park is usually open from about 10:30 to 16:30, with some rides operating at set times. Plan around three hours to enjoy it properly. Lockers and changing rooms are available on site. Bring swimwear, a towel and a change of clothes, and keep in mind that modest swimwear is perfectly fine; long-sleeved swim tops and full-length options are common here.

Planning your visit: hours, lunch and how to get there

Hon Thom is generally open from 9:00 to 17:00. The cable car runs outbound mainly in the morning and early afternoon, with return rides in the afternoon; the exact Hon Thom cable car times can change, so we send you the current timetable with your booking. On the default option, the buffet lunch is served in two sessions, 10:30 to 12:00 or 12:30 to 14:00, with seafood, rice, noodles, vegetables and fruit.

How to get to the Hon Thom cable car station: it stands in An Thoi, next to Sunset Town, about thirty minutes by car from Duong Dong and about ten minutes from the south of the island. Hotel transfers are not part of the ticket; taxis are easy to find, and we can arrange a private car if you prefer. Allow most of the day for the full visit.
